Summary
While there are a lot of streaming boxes and dongles out there, the NVIDIA Shield TV remains one of my favorites. If you’re still using that old Shield, we have good news. NVIDIA just released another update with many fixes and improvements.
The first NVIDIA Shield TV streaming device was released over ten years ago, yet NVIDIA is still busy improving these devices. However, many recent updates have been opt-in, like the update back in February, meaning owners everywhere miss out on bug fixes or changes. Thankfully, asconfirmed by NVIDIA, the all-new Shield Experience 9.2.1 update is rolling out to everyone this week, and it’s a big one. Here’s what’s new.
NVIDIA Shield Experience 9.2.1 Update
This week, all NVIDIA Shield TV devices will get a huge update to the latest 9.2.1 system version, adding 120FPS gaming with GeForce NOW, a slew of bug fixes, and new audio features like AURO-3D. You don’t need to opt in or anything, and it’ll arrive automatically. That said, owners can manually head to settings and check for updates to get it immediately.
I’ve been waiting for the new update, as it fixes countless bugs on the device. For example, NVIDIA patched an issue causing Dolby Vision content to lag and stutter, Plex playback issues, connection problems, and various little tweaks. You cancheck out the full changelog, but here are the important bits:
Bug Fixes & Changes:
The full changelog details additional enhancements and a few known issues and shares more details for those still enjoying the Shield TV. That said, we did see a few reports on Reddit that theearlier 9.2 update caused a bootloop, so we’ll keep an eye out for more details on whether anyone experiences similar issues on this release.
Keep in mind that HD game streaming isn’t new, andNVIDIA added 4K support in 2022. However, being able to game at 120FPS in 1080p is a nice addition. I’ve also had trouble with third-party remotes, so I’ll try that fix soon.
There’s a reasonShield TV devices are so expensive: They’re powerful, feature-packed, and continue to receive updates longer than most devices on the market. Check your device now if you have never opted into updates or have yet to receive this release. Again, this update is available forallNVIDIA Shield TV devices.
