This week onThe Young and the Restless, things are finally returning to normalcy in Genoa City after the last few months at the French estate of Aristotle Dumas/Cane Ashby – or, at least, as normal as things can get in a soap opera. AfterCarter’s killing spree in last week’sYoung and the Restless, it seems Cane’s plans to regain the trust of people have been dashed, as have his business plans.
Last week, everyone finally traveled back to Genoa City and started sharing the tragic news that both Chance and Damian were dead by Carter’s hand, while those left in Genoa City were spreading word of Cole’s funeral arrangements. Of course, there was fury and grief to go around, but surprisingly, while most blamed Cane for his assistant’s crimes, a fewYoung and the Restlesscharactersadvocated for Cane. One of them may prove to be Victor’s downfall.
What’s Happening This Week On The Young & The Restless: August 4-8
Victor Makes A Play For Lily’s Alliance & Kicks Audra To The Curb
Considering the multiple deaths of the past few weeks, this week’s events seem strangely unconnected or impacted by the murders. Both the episode synopses and the promo video indicate that it’s all business as usual back in Genoa City. It would appear everyone is back to trying to stab each other in the back over business schemes and money, just the wayThe Young and the Restlesslikes it.
There are a few ongoing storylines. It would appear that Victor is finally about to lower the boom on Audra and Kyle is ending his affair. Now that he’s coming clean to Claire, it gives Claire a chance to finally break free of the toxic relationship. Elsewhere, people are choosing sides as the Cane Ashby vs. Victor Newman fight continues to be the main plot driver.
Check out the episode synopses below for a tease about how the rest of the storylines will play out:
What Big Storyline We’re Following This Week
Victor Is Trying To Use Lily Again
Both the promo video and the synopses indicate that Victor is going to try to manipulate Lily again. While she wants nothing to do with Cane, Victor clearly wants to use her. Cane hasn’t exactly made a secret of the fact that he still loves Lily and would do anything for her, and Victor wants to use it to his advantage.
While he didn’t come right out and say it, he obviously wants Lily to spend time with Cane and grow close to him again – or at least seem to – ostensibly to act as a sort of double agent and gather information from Cane and feed it back to him. Victor intends for Lily to be a spy in Cane’s camp, and he obviously assumes that Lily will do it, despite her misgivings.
In fairness to Victor, he has no reason to think Lily won’t. It wouldn’t be the first time Victor used Lily to gather information to further his goals. It also wouldn’t be the first time he took advantage of her feelings and cruelly manipulated her for his own ends. It worked before, so why wouldn’t it work now? This time, however, Victor’s plans might backfire spectacularly on him.
How This Sets Up Next Week’s The Young & The Restless
Victor May Find Pushing Lily Into Cane’s Orbit Is A Big Mistake
Victor’s arrogance may very well be the thing that leads to his downfall. Two things are working against Victor: the fact that he’s already broken Lily’s trust in the past, and the fact that chinks are starting to show in Lily’s armor where Cane is concerned.
Lily was furious a few months ago when she learned that Victor had used her grief over her father’s death to manipulate her, a move so cruel that even Nikki argued that he was going too far and that Lily was their friend. Victor, as usual, didn’t care. Lily has worked with Victor since then, but it’s never been out of her previous sense of trust or friendship, just a business arrangement.
Victor may find that if he forces Lily and Cane together, real feelings will start to rekindle for Lily, and she’ll develop more loyalty for Cane – and more importantly, to herself – than she has for Victor. Cane has made a disastrous mess of so many things in Genoa City, but unlike Victor, who is a genuinely bad person, Cane is a flawed individual who is struggling to be a better man.
While she hasn’t forgiven Cane and does not trust him, Lily still defended him from the accusations that he had something to do with Damian’s and Chance’s murders. For as far gone as she thinks he is, she knows Cane would never do something like that, and it indicates that she may still know there’s a good man buried under all his mistakes.
Victor may not like what results from trying to use Lily once again. If she grows close to Cane again, they could join forces and become a formidable team, turning the tables that Victor currently seems to control against him. It would be a deliciously fun turn of events to seeThe Young and the Restlessvillain get what’s coming to him in one of the rare instances where he loses the game.
