A new surprise game has just been added to theXbox Game Passcatalog, and you’ll want to play it as soon as possible if you’re a fan of the iconic franchise to which it belongs. The subscription service’s catalog is constantly undergoing changes, with new additions and some removals. Most new additions are announced, like the arrival oftwo massive RPGs to Xbox Game Pass.
However, some titles are simply added to the catalog as a surprise, without prior warning. This is the case with Ubisoft’sThe Rogue Prince of Persia, which is now available without extra costs for Game Pass members. The title’s inclusion in the subscription service coincides with its official release date. The announcement was shared in a trailer on the officialXboxchannel on YouTube.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia Joins Xbox Game Pass
The title hadn’t been fully released yet. Developed by Evil Empire, the game was in an early access period on PC (via Steam) since last year, but had yet to reach consoles. Now, on August 20, the game’s Version 1.0 was fully released for consolesand was added as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, adding even more value to the subscription service. The game isn’t available on Xbox One.
InScreen Rant’s preview ofRogue Prince of Persialast year, we praised its gameplay, citing that it “feels like a unique and varied enough challenge.” Different from early 2024’s release ofPrince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which is a metroidvania,The Rogue Prince of Persiais a roguelike game with a permadeath systemthat sets you back if you fall in combat (or during exploration).
The Franchise Also Saw The Release Of The Lost Crown
With the two titles, thePrince of Persiafranchisehas made an epic comeback after a series of low-rated titles. The Ubisoft series had been somewhat left aside for other larger franchises, likeAssassin’s Creed, but the company didn’t completely give up on it.The Lost Crownwas met with critical acclaim last year, with an 86 Metascore onMetacritic.
Meanwhile,The Rogue Prince of Persiapositively surprised players in early access. The series may have stepped away from the larger-scale 3D approach of its predecessors, butit’s proven to be the right choice. This roguelike game, specifically, has been compared toDead Cells, which is a huge compliment.
This is, of course, no coincidence. Evil Empire worked with Motion Twin to develop theReturn to CastlevaniaDLC forDead Cells, so the studio mustered a lot of roguelike expertise, which was then applied to the new game. If you’re a fan of roguelikes or the series, I urge you to playThe Rogue Prince of Persia, especially with it being free onXbox Game Pass.
