The Story of the Evokers
The Evokers were created alongside the Dracthyr, which means that the Dracthyr are the only race that can utilize this new class. The class was created bythe black Dragon Aspect Neltharion, who later became the terrifying Deathwing and wreaked havoc across Azeroth. He wanted to create the perfect soldier that could wield the powers of all five major dragonflights, and so the Evoker was born. Not much more is known about the specifics of their story, but it will surely be expanded upon asWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightprogresses.
Much like theother hero classes inWorld of Warcraft, Evokers begin their journey in their own unique starting zone. Off the coast of the Dragon Isles lays the land of the Forbidden Reach. This land was created by Neltharion to serve as the training ground for his perfect army. However, the island became dormant and the Dragon Aspects left the Dragon Isles to deal with danger in Azeroth. Now, an ancient enemy has begun to stir the Evokers awake, and they must rejoin the world as either Horde or Alliance to save the Dragon Isles from whatever seeks to do it harm.
How Evokers Will Play
Unlikethe other classes inWorld of Warcraft, Evokers will only be able to be played by a Dracthyr, and the Dracthyr can only play as Evokers. This is the first race-class hybrid that Blizzard has introduced to the game, and it has proven a bit controversial. As such, the Evoker plays very much like how one would expect a humanoid dragon to play. They utilize the powers of the dragonflights to rain destruction upon the enemy, and their movement looks similar to that of the Demon Hunter.
The Evokers are broken down into two different specializations depending upon what the player wants their role to be. Players can select a Devastation Evoker and use the powers of the red and blue dragonflights to cause as much damage as possible. If they would rather support their party members, then they can choose the Preservation Evoker, which uses the powers of the green and bronze dragonflight to bolster their allies. This gives players the choice of aranged DPS specialization or a healing specialization, and both will surely attract some players looking for something new.
Evokers also come with a new way of casting spells called Empower. Instead of clicking one of many keybinds to activate a spell, Empower will let players hold down their keybinds to charge up the spell. The longer they hold down the button, the more powerful the spell will be. This can range from the amount of damage it does to increasing the number of targets that it will hit. This is abig change toWorld of Warcraft’scombat system, and if it is received well, then it may carry over to other classes.
The Evoker will be the first new class forWorld of Warcraftsince the Demon Hunter was added duringWorld of Warcraft: Legion. It will also be the first race-class hybrid added to the game, and the first ranged DPS class added since the game launched in 2004. It looks like it could be a lot of fun and has the chance to really shake up the meta.
