The first game in the trilogy established a setting of surprising scope and left players wondering what comes next at the end. To see B.J. Blazkowicz back in action inWolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, again tearing down an army of Nazis near single-handedly, is not startling.
What is startling isn’t that this newWolfensteintrilogy is continuing, but that there’s a clear direction and conclusion in mind. MachineGames is confidently proclaiming their dedication to a trilogy before the second game’s release, even going so far as to say that a trilogy has been the plan from the start. Sure, the awareness thatWolfenstein 2: The New Colossuswon’t be a true ending may be someone odd to acknowledge while playing the game, but in many ways it also builds drama. Think about howStar Wars: The Empire Strikesback was known to be the middle of a trilogy at its release.
