The big changes coming toPercy Jackson & The Olympiansseason 2 get a candid explanation from actor Aryan Simhadri. After a long wait,Percy Jackson & The Olympiansseason 2will debut on Disney+ in December. It will mark two years since the sweeping fantasy adaptation first premiered, becoming one of the streamer’s biggest hits, and it will look a little different.

The much-awaited second installment will adaptThe Sea of Monsters. Although the upcoming episodes are expected to remain faithful to the novel in crucial ways, some shifts are already being teased in regards to the overall tone.

Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson wearing Greek armor

In recent comments toTV Insider, Simhadri addressed why those changes are happening. The young star, who plays Grover Underwood, talks in the quote below about how the cast has grown alongside the audienceand previewsthe “intense season”of the fantasy drama’s return:

“The biggest thing that changed is I think this is a bit more of a mature and intense season. Our audience has grown a little bit. We’ve all grown a little bit. And so I think we’re obviously ready for higher stakes, and we’ve all spent so much time in these characters’ shoes.”

Simhadri also reflected on the advice thatthePercy Jacksoncastreceived from their on-set coach. As the Grover actor puts it, it’s part of the evolution that the characters experience and howeverything feels heightened:

“Their nervous system becomes our nervous system. So we feel how they feel.”

What This Means For Percy Jackson Season 2

The Long Wait Influences The Story

Percy Jacksonseason 2 will release on December 10,marking two years since season 1 premiered. Although streaming delays are common, they have become enough of an issue that there have been different approaches to address them. But what’s less agreed upon is how to address the time elapsed on-screen. In the case ofPercy Jacksonseason 2,there will be a time jump.

The novels on which the show is based also include time jumps.

Dramas likeStranger Thingshave been lightly mocked online for refusing to address how the young cast has noticeably aged between seasons, although not much time has passed within the show itself. The latest remarks seem to at least point to the fact thatPercy Jacksonseason 2 will at least acknowledge that the characters are maturing along with their actors.

That will be especially important, considering how thePercy Jacksonseason 1 endingleaves a lot for the fantasy adaptation to pick up on. It’s known that the upcoming episode will expand beyond Walker Scobell’s titular hero to shine a spotlight on Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover, which makes it all the more important to distinguish how they’ve evolved.

Our Take On A More Mature Percy Jackson Show

It’s A Balance

One of the reasons that this adaptation is generally well-received, especially when compared to the previous movie franchise, is that it maintains what worked from the novels. But withPercy Jacksonseason 3 already confirmed, the fantasy drama has to navigate a way to slowly evolve while maintaining its core appeal. So far, it sounds like a success.
