Power Rangershas been all aboutMighty Morphinfor decades now, and while I agree that we’ve had more than enoughMMPR, I believe the franchise should still revisit the original team but in a completely different way. AlthoughMighty MorphinPower Rangersended in 1995, the entirePower Rangersuniversehas been built around the original series. From characters like Jason and Tommy showing up in other seasons even after the Zordon Era had ended to all the comics, video games, and movies about the original team,Power Rangersis synonymous withMMPRfor better or worse.

There are a lot ofPower Rangersteams, but general audiences are way more likely to recognize the original characters than they are to be familiar with the other seasons. The importance ofMMPRto the franchise cannot be taken for granted, which is why I think that the newPower Rangersshow at Disney+should be a reimagining of the original series.

Power Rangers’ New Show Should Be A Mighty Morphin Reboot

Power Rangers Is Reportedly Getting A Disney+ Show

Disney+’sPower Rangersshow is a great chance to reinvent the franchise, but that does not mean that it cannot include new versions of classic characters.Power Rangershas been around for 32 years, yetwe only ever had one reboot ofMighty Morphin– the 2017 film. Considering that the2017Power Rangersrebootwas a box office failure that killed any chances of it becoming a movie franchise, we never got to see what this new take onMMPRwould have looked like in the long run.

There are technically twoMighty Morphin Power Rangersmovies – the 1995 film and the 2017 reboot – although none of them are canon to the show.

In other words,Mighty MorphinPower Rangersstill has a lot of untapped potential despite having been the bread and butter of the franchise since the 1990s. There is a lot that can be done withMighty Morphin, especially in a different format with a bigger budget and more mature stories. The best example of this untapped potential is the BOOM! Studios comics, most of which are set in theMighty Morphinera. The comics have shown thateven the oldestPower Rangersseason can be reinvented in fun, exciting ways.

A Well-Done Mighty Morphin Reboot Could Be Very Successful

Apart from the 2017 film, which many will agree was a very interesting take onPower Rangers,Mighty Morphinhas yet to have a proper modern reboot. The vast majority of thePower Rangersseasons have taken place in the same continuity, the only two exceptions beingR.P.M.andDino Chargedue to the inconsistencies it would cause. This is why having a reboot set in a brand-new universe would be so exciting, even if it’sMMPRagain.

It may seem paradoxical that the most overusedPower Rangersseason is also the one with the most untapped potential. From the personalities and the inner struggles of the“five teenagers with attitude”to all the worldbuilding surrounding Zordon and Rita Repulsa, the originalPower Rangersshow has more than enough ingredients to make a great modern reboot.
