Apple TV+has seen a lot of success with its vast list of sci-fi TV shows, and there’s another upcoming release from Vince Gilligan for the streaming service that should be on your radar. Just recently, Apple TV+ debutedMurderbot, a sci-fi comedy starring Alexander Skarsgård that has already scored a season 2 renewal. The platform also recently welcomed backFoundationfor season 3, a hit show based onIsaac Asimov’s book series.
As for other ongoing sci-fi hits that have received critical acclaim,Apple TV+ is notably the home ofSeveranceandSilo, which are both returning for a third season, as well asDark MatterandFor All Mankind. Not only are they also returning for new seasons, but the latter is getting a spinoff titledStar City.
While the streamer has had massive success outside the science fiction genre,Apple TV+ has emerged as a leader for sci-fi shows. As the list of sci-fi programming continues to grow, there’s one specific title that viewers should be on the lookout for. This is especially true for fans of shows likeBreaking BadandBetter Call Saul.
Vince Gilligan’s Next Show Is A Sci-Fi Series For Apple TV+
The New Show Is Coming Later This Year
Vince Gilligan is best known for creating the award-winning crime dramaBreaking Badand its (equally great) spinoff,Better Call Saul. However,Gilligan’sBetter Call Saulfollow-up will be a twisted sci-fi show for Apple TV+, and it’s coming in November. Gilligan’s new sci-fi drama had the working title ofWycaro 339,but it’s now confirmed to be calledPluribus.
Along withPluribus’title and release date announcement,Apple described the plot as “a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.“The show is notably set in Albuquerque and will star Rhea Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler inBetter Call Saul.
Vince Gilligan Isn’t New To Sci-Fi
Despite the fact that Apple is still keeping many details surrounding Gilligan’s upcoming show under wraps, it has all the makings of a hit. Gilligan has certainly proven himself, considering he’s the mastermind behind two of the best shows in TV history. What’s more, he’s had plenty of experience in the world of sci-fi due to his time as a writer and director onThe X-Files.
In total,Vince Gilligan wrote 30 episodes ofThe X-Filesand even co-created the official spinoff,The Lone Gunmen. It’s safe to say that Apple TV+’s upcoming sci-fi show is in good hands, genre-wise.Pluribusalso has the benefit of Gilligan’s epic storytelling history.
Since Gilligan’s been known to reunite with former cast members, maybe Seehorn won’t be the only familiar face fromBetter Call SaulandBreaking Badto appear in the new show. Even though it hasn’t been released yet,Apple TV+appears to be placing a lot of faith in the show, asPluribusseason 2 is already confirmed.
