Although Netflix’s slow-burning murder mystery seriesUntamedwas originally released as a miniseries, there’s a clear path forward for it to expand with a second season. The six-part series co-written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant,American Primeval) was released in full on Netflix on June 01, 2025.
Untamedsurged on Netflix’s global streaming chartsjust hours after its release, landing the coveted number one spot on the streaming platform. Eric Bana leads thecast ofUntamedasKyle Turner, a Yosemite National Park federal agent haunted by personal tragedywho gives everything to solve the apparent murder case of a young girl.
AlthoughUntamedhas a definitive and shocking twist ending, the series could continue if Netflix were to take a different route with the franchise. It would have to deviate from the standard serial format and insteadmakeUntamedan anthology show with a new cast of characters each season.
Untamed Is A Miniseries, So A Season 2 With The Same Cast Seems Unlikely
Kyle’s Ending Does Leave The Door Open For His Return
BecauseUntamedis a miniseries,a second season following the same story as season 1 seems very unlikely. However, Netflix could haveUntamedmove to another national park for a new story and cast, such as Yellowstone in Wyoming, Zion in Utah, or Acadia in Maine.

Eric Bana recently speculatedon the potential future of his character Kyle followingUntamed’sending. “We knew that the nature of his job is that these ISB agents do get moved around from park to park, which is why the ending is the way that it is because that is a very feasible thing and it was part of the story structure.”
While this in no way confirms that a second season ofUntamedis happening, there seems to be a developing consensus on what a second season would look like. Even if Bana didn’t return to a potentialUntamedseason 2,new characters in a new setting would be the best step forward.
Netflix Could Turn Untamed Into A Crime Drama Anthology
It Could Become Netflix’s Version Of True Detective
SomeUntamedfans have drawn early comparisons to HBO’s celebrated seriesTrue Detective, which would make even more sense forUntamed’sfuture. Each season ofTrue Detectivehas followed a completely new murder mysterywith new characters and locations, setting up a successful blueprint for the Netflix series.
As the story goes with Netflix, viewership reigns supreme on the streaming platform, so ifUntamedseason 2 does happen, it will be because the series will continue to dominate global charts throughout the rest of July 2025 and beyond. It’s too early to call it at this point, butUntamedis still in a good enough position to remain hopeful.
