The indie horror gameUnderis set to release sometime this year and gamers are getting hyped up, as the game, which is set on a haunted sinking ship, looks reminiscent of one the most beloved horror games of all time,PT.
Back in 2014,PTswept the internetand has since been revered as one of the scariest horror titles since. Standing for “Playable Teaser,” it was meant as a teaser for Hideo Kojima’s then-upcomingSilent Hillsgame in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro. But following Kojima’s breakup with Konami, it leftPTin limbo on the PlayStation Store and, in a way, as its own standalone video game. That is until Konami removed the free demo from the PlayStation Store, a decision met with much criticism but also leading the cult following of fans torecreatePTfrom scratch.

Now, in 2020, a game titledUnderis drawing many similarities from the axedPT.Set in 1914, the tale follows traumatized World War 1 vet Alexander Dockter on anabandoned colossal ocean linerthat was supposed to be his ticket home. The game will feature undeniably horrific elements such as jump scares and ghosts while adding on the stress factor of a sinking ship and flooding decks.
Even from the moment that Alexander wakes up, the game looks and feels similar to the very beginning ofPT.From ghosts at the ends of long hallways to doors that shut on their own to the ominously dingy lighting,Underseems to take direct inspiration from the 2014 demo. This could be a very successful tactic by the developers over at Globiss, because to this day gamers are still trying toincorporatePTinto their gaming experiences.
According to the website,Underis still in closed beta and was set to release on Steam back in March to April, depending on how development went. But a free demo for the horror title ended on June 22, and so far it’s unclear when the game will be releasing. According to Steam, players can hope for it to be available for purchase late this year.
Underis slated for release on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in Q3 2020.
