Twisted Metalshowrunner Michael Jonathan Smith has reflected on the future of missing season 1 characters after the events of season 2.Twisted Metalseason 2’s focus is on Calypso’s upcoming tournament, where he will grant the winner one wish. While some familiar faces, like Sweet Tooth, will be participating, others, like Preacher, will be absent from the event.
WhileScreenRant’s Brennan Klein was visiting the set ofTwisted Metal,Smith explained howscheduling issues and a large cast made it impossible to bring everyone back for season 2. Luckily, the showrunner has plans to incorporate any missing characters into a possible season 3, with an idea he’s keeping close to his chest. Check out what Smith said below:
There were some characters from season 1 that I really wanted to bring back, but because of scheduling and because of how big our cast was, we ended up shifting it around a little bit. There’s an idea that I’m not gonna spoil… but there is something that I’m saving for next season for sure, God willing.
What Smith’s Statement Means For Absent Characters In Twisted Metal Season 2
They’re Gone, But For How Long?
Twisted Metalseason 1 endedby laying the groundwork for Calypso’s tournament. This included teasing that a number of important characters who John met on his travels would be participating. Familiar faces like Sweet Tooth were shown, butso were other potential racers, like Preacher, who aren’t going to be showing upin season 2.
Given Smith’s response, it seems the biggest hurdle for season 2 was getting thecast ofTwisted Metalback together. Conflicting schedules appears to be the biggest reason why some characters who are racers from the games won’t be showing up for the upcoming tournament. It also meanssome elements will likely be changed compared to what season 1 teased.
Even so, Smith seems dedicated to bringing absent characters back at some point. If season 3 is ever confirmed, then it sounds like he has a planthat would reunite those who aren’t in season 2 with the core cast members who will be showing up. What that plan to bring everyone together is, though, remains a mystery.

It’s Good To Know They Might Show Up In The Future
Although it’s disappointing such interesting and fun characters like Preacher aren’t going to be coming back forTwisted Metalseason 2, there’s still some hope based on Smith’s statement thatthey’re not gone for good.In fact, season 2 establishing the tournament but not using everyone could make season 3 all the more exciting, since the groundwork will be laid.
There’s no word on ifTwisted Metalwill continue beyond season 2 just yet, but if Smith has a long-term plan, then it could be exciting to see how characters waiting to come back factor into it. But, with season 2’s biggest focus being Calypso’s tournament, it seems like the wait for some familiar faces is going to be long.
