Peacock has released a teaser forTwisted Metalseason 2’s tournament, and it’s promising to embrace one key aspect of the video game franchise. Almost two years have passed since the release of Twisted Metal season 1, and viewers have waited eagerly to see what they’ll do with the tournament in season 2. The first season functioned more as a prequel, while the second will get into the core of the games. Luckily, the wait is almost over, asTwisted Metalseason 2will release on June 06, 2025.
In the leadup, Peacock has shared aTwisted Metalteaser and first-look photos. The initial trailer showed some of the new characters who would join the cast. As a fan of the Twisted Metal video games, thefirst look at Axeland Calypso was the first thing that made me confident that they would do the games justice. While the first-look photos are fun to look at, they don’t reveal anything new. However, the teaser for Twisted Metal season 2 does confirm that the show will embrace one key aspect of the video games, and I’m pumped.
Twisted Metal Season 2’s New Teaser Uses Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” Song (Just Like The Games)
“Dragula” Will Finally Appear In The Twisted Metal TV Show
Many fans expressed disappointment that the song “Dragula” by Rob Zombie didn’t appear inTwisted Metalseason 1. The song “Dragula” is widely associated with theTwisted Metalvideo game franchise for a couple of significant reasons. Most notably, Rob Zombie music is the foundation ofTwisted Metal 3and4.The 1998 song appears on the soundtrack ofTwisted Metal 4andTwisted Metal (2012). Additionally, Rob Zombie is a playable celebrity character inTwisted Metal 4, and his undead rocker avatar drives the Dragula from the song’s music video.
The Hot Rod Herman remix of “Dragula” has appeared in multiple video games, includingSled Storm,Twisted Metal 4, andGran Turismo 2.
It is such an integral part of the franchise thatTwistedMetal’s composers speculated about when the song would appearin thePeacockshow when speaking toScreen Rantafter the first season’s release, pointing to the tournament as the most likely place the showrunners would use it. It turns out they were spot-on about their prediction.
“Dragula” appears in thenew teaser forTwisted Metalseason 2, which showcases the tournament’s start and some of the anticipated violence. Although the song’s absence in season 1 might have been a bummer, its placement inTwisted Metalseason 2 feels pretty perfect.
Why “Dragula” Is The Perfect Song To Tease Twisted Metal Season 2’s Tournament
Dragula Fits The Ambiance Of The Twisted Metal TV Show Perfectly
Although the creative team could have picked any song, Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” is the perfect choice to tease Calypso’s tournament because it hints that the show will fully embrace the source material. There’s no way to make a one-to-one adaptation of Twisted Metal, but thenewTwisted Metalseason 2 charactersand tournament should at least show deep reverence for the video games. The designs of Calypso and Axel already hinted that this would be the case, and “Dragula” is just more affirmation of that.
Aside from that, “Dragula” fits with the established tone and style of Twisted Metal. The score ofTwisted Metalseason 1, written by Zach Robinson and Leo Birenberg, blends together traditional scoring and metal music (especially nu-metal), and the song “Dragula” is an excellent example of the latter – straddling the line between nu-metal and industrial metal. On top of that, Rob Zombie’s iconic song fits well with the grungy post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
Additionally, even though I’ve been rooting for a Rob Zombie cameo since the start, it seemsunlikely (though not impossible) that the celebrity will appear inTwisted Metalseason 2based on his tour schedule during filming. As such, the inclusion of “Dragula” during the tournament is the next best option. PerhapsTwisted Metalseason 2 will use more of the Rob Zombie songs that appeared inTwisted Metal 3and4. “Superbeast” and “Meet the Creeper” would be great options for theTwisted MetalTV show. Either way, season 2 should still be a hell of a good time.
