Today’s Connections Category Hints
April 16 #675
I had a difficult time while solving today’s puzzle, but what helped me get through the struggle was tothink about the actions of words rather than your first association. For example, the word SCAR in today’s puzzle immediately seems to pair well with LION or SIMBA, but this is a trick. Those who attempt to make aLion Kingconnection will fail to see what other associations make more sense.
The categories are not what they seem today, so follow these clues to give you a good idea about what they could be:
If you want to go all out with some of your clue-searching,you should look at the category namesto get some extra help. There are also spoilers for each category if you find yourself needing to solve a single category to finish up.
GARTER
STOCKINGS
This puzzle was difficult for me, as I thought BOA and GARTER would relate to MAMBA as a series of snake species. While those two words are indeed in this part of the puzzle, the connection to Victorian-era clothing was not on my radar by any means. After making an initial mistake, Irelated GARTER to a garter belt, which helped me associate it with STOCKINGS and CORSET to complete the set with BOA.
SCRAPE
SCRATCH
Putting together SCRAPE and SCRATCH was not too difficult for me, but I did get tripped up with SCAR, initially thinking it was aLion Kingreference. However, when I noticed thatSCORE is not a sports term, but rather a verb to describe scarring something, it helped me put the two concepts together. This correct pairing revealed the theme of this puzzle part, allowing me to find the solution relatively quickly.
KATY PERRY
LION
The super-specific word KATY PERRY was something I identified quickly, but it was hard to tell at first what connections came from it. Obviously, Katy Perry draws in a big CROWD whenever she performs, so that took care of one problem. It didn’t take long to realize thatENGINE and LION should be associated with the sounds they makerather than the noun version of themselves to solve this puzzle piece.
SIMBA
TANGY
This category was the cause of so many other points of confusion for me on the other topics for today’s puzzle. Admittedly, I only began to catch onto this category’s theme once all the others had been figured out. As a result, realizing thatSIMBA was meant to be the Latin dance"Samba"and TANGY meant"Tango"came later, but it did help me confirm my suspicions to find the solution to the remaining puzzle part.
