Even after eight patches and an overwhelming amount of content, there’s still a lot missing fromBaldur’s Gate 3. Many things that were planned in Early Access were cut from the final release so Larian could focus on finishing the most important aspects of the game, so players may not be able to do everything they initially expected.BG3is still a great finished product, but it hasn’t stopped fans from noticing where certain areas fall short.
Despite this, I think thatone example of missing content makes a lot of senseand possibly even adds slightly more to the game in its absence. You don’t always need to explicitly spell something out for it to be obvious to the player, and one character is a perfect example of that. A certainBaldur’s Gate 3companion has a slightly less developed romance route, but I think the fact that they’re missing some voice lines is pretty consistent with their character.
You Can’t Break Up With Minthara In Baldur’s Gate 3
‘Til Death Do Us Part
When you’re romancing the majority of theBaldur’s Gate 3companions, you’ll have the option to break up with themwhenever you want. However, some players have noticed a curious detail: there is no such option after establishing a relationship with Minthara. It’s quite well-known thatMinthara lacks a lot of content in BG3, and her romance arc can be quite bugged, but the fact that this dialogue is missing for her fits so well with her personality that it’s hard to distinguish whether this was an intended feature.
Realistically, trying to break up with Minthara would not go down well.Minthara is a very different brand of evil compared to someone like thetoxic Ascended Astarion, who will use the romanced player to his benefit and insult them if they decide to leave him. Though Minthara is genuinely caring in her own way, she is also deeply possessive and won’t take no for an answer. Reddit userDarkmaster7411shared a hilarious story about deciding to confess to Minthara with the intention of breaking up, only to be stuck with her for the rest of their playthrough.
“Am I stuck with her? Do I have to kill her to get out of the relationship? Please help.” - Darkmaster7411
As a noble drow of house Baenre,Minthara is used to getting what she wants. If she confesses to you while you’re already in a relationship, she’ll simply try to convince you to be with her instead, though you’ll probably be relieved to know that you’re able to reject her in this circumstance. Minthara is a great romance choice if you plan to do anevil campaign inBaldur’s Gate 3, but it’s understandable that some players may be frustrated that they can’t end a relationship with her on their own terms.
If You Want To Romance Someone Else, Minthara Can Still Break Up With You
You’re Not Completely Stuck, But You Can’t End It Civilly
There’s no dialogue option for the player to end their relationship with Minthara, but she can end it herself if she feels her partner has stepped out of line. Although Larian cut out a scenario where she would break up with the Dark Urge if they rejected Bhaal, the main method of getting Minthara to lose feelings for you is by initiating a romance with someone else. The quickest way to do this is by accepting Mizora’s proposition, but if yourecruited Minthara the traditional wayby raiding the grove, Wyll will leave your party, so Mizora won’t be available.
With that being said, you may also struggle to trigger Minthara to break up with you if you’re further into the game and missed the start of other companion romances. You also can’t cheat on Minthara with the drow twins if she’s in your party - she’ll just threaten you, which ends the dialogue before you may hire them. Even though it likely wasn’t an intended feature and can be considered missing content, Minthara’s lack of a break-up option is actually perfectly befitting of her nature inBaldur’s Gate 3.
