In Marvel Comics, the Devourer of Worlds known asGalactusis the be-all end-all when it comes to cosmic space entities. And thanks to SDCC,a new Galactus cosplay nails the character’s head-spinning sizein a way every fan needs to see.
Shared on Instagram by Tad Franks (@toy_command), the viral cosplay video depicts Thomas DePetrillo (@extreme_costumes) as he debuts his massive Galactus suit at SDCC. No stranger to creating larger-than-life costumes like Hulkbuster, Gundam, Bumblebee, and various original designs, Thomas has proven a creator worth following:
A Marvel icon since his debut in 1966’sFantastic Four #48by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Galactus' return to live-action inFantastic Four: First Stepsmakes this cosplay perfectly-timed, and perfectly-executed.
Galactus' Impossible Size is Perfectly Recreated In This Real-World Costume
Cosplay Design by Thomas DePetrillo (@extreme_costumes)
Filmed on-site at San Diego Comic Con 2025, the first thing made apparent in this video is just how large Thomas’ Galactus cosplay really is. Standing almost three times the size of a normal person walking around the show floor,Thomas doesn’t skimp on the galactic proportions the character is known for, while staying true to Galactus’ iconic comic look.
CombiningGalactus’ comic and MCU designsinto a streamlined suit, Thomas adds strips of lighting to highlight the purple and blue hues of the costume, with a spinning chest piece, glowing eyes, and grimacing face mold. Add in bulging arms and legs, and you have a live-action look paying off countless hours' worth of hard work.
And because Thomas can actually walk and interact with people while in costume, this Galactus design impresses on a whole other level, provingGalactus can still work as a practical effect costume, rather than a fully computerized behemoth (as seen in all live-action appearances thus far).
This Galactus Avoids The Inevitable Problem With A Movie Version
No Matter How Big He Seems, Some Will Find Galactus Too Small On Film
Galactus’ smaller stature inFantastic Four: First Stepswas a point of contention for fans who are used to the character’s massive size in the comics. Yet Thomas is still able to bring Galactus’ towering look to life, replicating the character’s hulking frame while expertly adding his creative flair toGalactus’ instantly recognizable design.
It’s unclear if Galactus will return for anyfuture MCU movies, but if his problems with Marvel’s “First Family” are truly over, at least talented creators like Thomas DePetrillo (@extreme_costumes) will continue to push the envelope with what can be accomplished in the cosplay space, givingGalactusfans reason to keep their eyes peeled.
