An excellent horror game with a high Metacritic score is coming toGame Passat the beginning of next month, and you shouldn’t miss it. Although Game Pass has a number of sporadic monthly releases, at the beginning of every month, the service typically getsa handful of headliners. These are generally older classics, and not new releases, which tend to be a little more spread out. However, if you’re not actively following major Game Pass announcements or regularly browsing the Xbox homepage, it can be easy to miss new releases you might otherwise pick up on day one.
So for that reason, I’m here to sing the praises of a certain horror game due for Game Pass release on July 1. It wouldn’t be totally accurate to call it underrated:it got excellent reviews, and has a devoted fan base, having been pretty popular during the early months of its release. But it’s no big-name release, and, if you weren’t aware of its reception when it first came out, you may have missed it. With its pending release on Game Pass next month, though, you should definitely make the time to check outLittle Nightmares 2.
Little Nightmares 2 Is Coming To Game Pass On July 1
A Great Horror Game
The 2021 Tarsier Studios gameLittle Nightmares 2will be available on Game Pass starting July 1, and you should definitely give it a chance. With an 82 critic score and 8.4 audience score onMetacritic, it’s garnered a generally favorable reception across the board, with critics everywhere praising its unique vision and well-designed world.
Little Nightmareson Game Pass almost makes up for a fairlylackluster June release schedule. Coming off an excellent April, which saw day-one releases likeClair Obscur,Blue Prince, andSouth of Midnightcome to the service, and excellent classics likeDredgeandMetaphor: ReFantazioin May, June’s big Game Pass release -FBC: Firebreak- has been a bit of a disappointment. Althoughgames likeRematchhave redeemed it a bit, and we still haveThe Altersto look forward to, July is making up for this month’s misstepswith a strong day-one showing.
Why Subscribers Should Give This Horror Game A Chance
A Great Game With An Upcoming Sequel
The main reason you should giveLittle Nightmares 2a chance is simple:it’s a great horror gamethat’s perfect for both genre newcomers and longtime veterans. You play as Mono and Six, a pair of children pursued by all manner of monsters (and occasionally humans) as they traverse a detailed, claymation-inspired world. There are lots of great little twists I won’t spoil, including a secret ending you can only find if you obtain all the collectibles.
Gameplay is relatively simple, but interesting enough:you’ll have to platform around certain areas, and occasionally solve easy puzzlesin order to proceed. There’s a little bit more combat involved here than in the firstLittle Nightmares- you can use certain objects as improvised weapons against enemies, but at the end of the day, this isn’tResident Evil. If you’ve played therecent MoonHood releaseThe Midnight Walk, then you probably have a solid idea of how it plays. Really, the focus here is on story and atmosphere.
And, if you enjoyLittle Nightmares 2, you’ll be glad to know thatit has a sequel due out on October 10. It’s one of themost anticipated horror releases of the year, and will also be the first game in the series to support co-op multiplayer. While you don’t have to play any individualLittle Nightmaresgame to enjoy the rest of the series, checking this one out may be a handy way to see if you’re interested in the upcoming sequel.
So, really, you have nothing to lose by checking this one out when it comes to Game Pass. With maybe a five-hour runtime, you won’t even wind up wasting that much time on it if you don’t love it - but you’re more than likely to find something to love aboutLittle Nightmares 2when it comes toGame Pass.
