EA’sBattlefield 2042has been the subject of a lot of criticism by many fans, as the game failed to live up to their expectations. This came along with the fact that the game was riddled with bugs at release, with issues such as hit registration held as one of the biggest problems. Destructive environments and buildings were one of the more anticipated features many players were hoping would gain a huge focus, but many were met with disappointment.

Given the amount of time between its initial release and its soon 1-year-old age, developers atDICEhave been able to implementsome required improvementsto have the title function in a playable manner, butBattlefield 2042players will be aware that there are stillother areas that need to be addressed.

7More Weapons

One of the more prominent complaints fromBattlefieldfans was the lack ofweapons available for use. With just 22 weapons at players' disposal, many continue to call for an addition to allow for more variety in their gameplay experiences.

For DICE to retain and also invite more players to their game, this is integral to its success. Giving players more options in the weapons department adds another reason and purpose for fans to grind in the aspect of leveling up weapons and becoming accustomed to each of them.

6More Maps

With the recent introduction ofthe new map “Exposure”, the game’s player base has seen a massive fluctuation, with some fans holding praise for DICE’s efforts here. The map provides a fresh feeling for new and current players, as its design has helped refine players' gameplay experiences.

Some maps such as “Kaleidoscope” needed adjustments considering the backlash from fans. So not only will the addition of new maps increase the player base exponentially based on players' curiosity, but it would also take that extra step toward meeting the expectations players had for the game at its release if done properly.

5Permanent Team Deathmatch

As most FPS players will be familiar with other franchises such asCall Of DutyorHaloand their team deathmatch modes, it would only be reasonable for DICE to follow suit withBattlefield 2042. The introduction of a permanent team deathmatch gives an option to play within small close distanced matches or stick tolarge maps in “Conquest”.

To go along with this, DICE would be giving fans a good service by introducing a map voting system that was featured in their previous 2016 titleBattlefield 1.Giving players the freedom of choice in areas of the game as such would be one of the factors that are beneficial in terms of its longevity.

4Change Level-Up System

InBattlefield 2042, obtaining new weapons or items is dependent on the player’s rank, as each weapon requires adifferent level to unlock. This is different from other FPS titles such asCall Of Duty, as players can unlock new weapons or items via challenges set to each one.

To allow players to enjoy the game and appeal to those who may prefer the grind or not, it is essential to make items unlockable from a challenge system and a ranking system. With discussions of future updates coming to the title, this would be an important feature to tweak and change for DICE.

3Destructive Environments

At its initial reveal, many fans were anticipating a sufficient amount of destructive environments to be present within gameplay as previously seen inBattlefield 4.During the game’s buggy period, helicopters and jets would bounce off of buildings rather than go through them.

This is unrealistic and ruins the immersion of battle for players. If it is possible, DICE must ensure that this section of the title is heavily improved as most fans see the destruction within theBattlefieldfranchise as a prerequisite, and as a result, may see the player count rise above its predecessors.

2Simple UI

With the collection of bugs and issues this game has faced, the user interface was and still remains the subject of criticism. From players respawning, selecting or changing specialistsand classes, or opening doors in-game, complaints are prevalent in this area.

If DICE is able to provide a completely new menu and user interface built from the ground up, this would help to simplify navigation for players and enable a much more fluid and interactive experience for fans. Certain areas and doors within the game would become more accessible, and a change in player prompts would allow players to perform an action quickly.

1Realistic War Tone

After each game session within a lobby, players' specialists are displayed with dialogue portraying an unserious tone, which many fans were unhappy with at the time of release. It was features that are similar to this that led many to believe that the game matched more of aCall Of DutyorFortnite-like tone, rather than tones of previous titles inBattlefield 1and5.

Whether this comes down to the context in which these games are set in, the tone is in need of a major shift to match one closer to the game’s age rating. This also depends on the aims of DICE and EA and their intentions regarding what the future holds withBattlefield. Despite the rumors of the game being abandoned, it is yet to be confirmed whether this is the case.

User Interface

Battlefield 2042is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.
