The Young and the Restlesslegend Lauralee Bell has admitted that she misses something about her character Christine Blair. The hugely popular soap, which was created by Bell’s parents, debuted in March 1973, with Bell being offered the bit part role of model Christine Blair in 1983, a role that became more regular from 1986.
Positive reaction from fans led to a contracted role on the show, and a long, interesting character arc for Christine, who went from model to law student to district attorney. As one of the most popular andlongest-runningY&Rcastmembers, Bell’s Christine has been a firm fan-favorite, and was affectionately nicknamed"Cricket,“and to Bell, she’ll always be Cricket.
PerTV Insider,Bell has admitted that she still thinks of Christine as Cricket, and finds it odd when the character is referred to by her actual name. She went on to state that she loves the fact that long-running fans continue to refer to the character as Cricket. Check out her comments below:
“I’ve only been OK with hearing that name if [the character is] in the courtroom or in a legal situation because, obviously, the other wouldn’t work. But I love that the OGs will forever and always call her Cricket.
I love that there’s an emoji that’s a cricket because I use it now all the time. Everyone should have their own emoji.”
What This Means For Bell’s Y&R Legacy
Her Character Is So Iconic She Feels A Part Of Her Now
Christine remains one of the more likable characters in the soap, and one whose popularity has continued to endure. Over the years, there have been many iconic departures anddeaths inThe Young and the Restless, but characters like Cricket have remained, and are a fun link between the early years of the soap and its more modern landscape.
The fact that Bell still loves the nickname Cricket, and finds Christine odd, shows that she reflects on the importance this character had to her younger and more formative years. Growing up in the public eye, there’s a chance of either loving or loathing your character, andCricket is clearly an affectionate nickname that shows she looks at the character fondly.
Our Take On Bell Missing Christine’s Nickname
The Character Has Evolved A Lot, But Bell Clearly Remembers The Early Years Fondly
When playing a long-running character on film or television, the journey can change over time, and the character’s evolution can be fun and exciting. But there is also the nostalgia aspect of fondly remembering the character in their early years, and how this reflected life for the actor, and this seems to be the case with Bell.
It’s great to see that she has fond memories of when the character was younger, and it will be interesting to see how Christine’s future on the show evolves. But Bell’s love for Cricket, as one of the mostprominentY&Rcharacters, is a joy to see, and hopefully will continue for the rest of her time on the show.
