WhileThe Shapeshifterisn’t the only project beingdeveloped for the Game Boy in 2021, with the news of an NES release it will likely be the only game coming to not one, but two retro consoles all year. It also marks the first Green Boy Games release for the NES. The Barcelona developer has previously released five other titles, all for the Game Boy.

There is no word currently on whether the NES version of the game will have altered graphics to take advantage of the addition colors available on Nintendo’s original home console, but at the very least the port will allow players to experience the game on a bigger screen. It seems to be the trend for most modern day games forclassic systems to also get a steam or itch.io release, but Green Boy Games saysThe Shapeshifterwill be released as a rom and physical cartridge only in order to keep the spirit and gameplay of the Game Boy alive.
