“What An Adventure…”
The Masked Singerseason 13 contestantEdwin loved his experience as Nessy. He gushed,“Ah, that was a great experience. What an adventure. You know, we really enjoyed the entire process, from seeing the costume for the first time and meeting the music supervisors and the vocal coach, and just had a great, great experience.”
Edwin added thatthere were some challenges to performing in the giant Nessy costume. He explained,“It was really hot. They were nice and gave me a vest that had ice packs, but I have a newfound respect and admiration for professional sports mascots, for sure.”
When it came to dancing as Nessy, Edwin was initially worried that he’d ruin the costume, but then he became more comfortable with it. He shared,“So at first I was a little nervous because I didn’t want to, like, knock the tail off. I didn’t want to do any damage to this really beautiful costume. But then, as the shows went on, I figured out how to move easier in it, and, once you got used to it, it was great.”
Edwin’s Favorite Performance As Nessy Was “Can’t Fight This Feeling” By REO Speedwagon
“Kevin Cronin Has Been A Dear Friend Over The Years…”
For his favorite performance as Nessy,Edwin chose his Decades Night REO Speedwagon song, “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” He shared,“If I had to pick one, I would say the REO Speedwagon song because [REO Speedwagon frontman] Kevin Cronin has been a dear friend over the years. When I was 19, they let me open for them in Colorado at a really big show, and so it was kind of a full-circle moment for me to pay it back, and say thank you to him and sing his song on the show.”
Edwin’s Next Performance Would’ve Surprised Everyone
Edwin was unmasked during theMasked Singerseason 13 quarter-finals, buthe had a song prepared for if he made it to the semi-finals, which was “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan. He laughed,“I think my daughter is probably glad that I didn’t sing ‘Pink Pony Club’ on national television [laughs].”
Edwin’s Sons Didn’t Know That He Was On The Masked Singer
“I Think They Were Impressed…”
DuringThe Masked Singerseason 13 quarter-finals, Edwin’s daughter appeared in his clue package in a mask and with her voice disguised to give some clues about her famous father. However, after Edwin was unmasked,he revealed that his sons didn’t know that he was on the show.
In hisScreenRantinterview,Edwin shared how his sons reacted to him being revealed as Nessy. He said,“I think if they managed to get off Call of Duty long enough, I think they were impressed. I mean, honestly, my sons have always been really supportive. Especially my oldest son–he gets it. My middle son is so much like me. He doesn’t really pay much attention to it, but my oldest son does.“Edwin added,“I don’t think they knew what to make of that [laughs].”
Edwin Loved The Panelists' Wrong Guesses For Him
“The Gene Simmons Guess Was Hilarious…”
Robin wasthe onlyMasked Singerpanelist who correctly guessed Edwin.The other panelists had some interesting guesses for him, including Gene Simmons, Justin Hawkins, and Dave Matthews (Rita); Dan Reynolds, Darius Rucker, Uncle Kracker, and Johnny Rzeznik (Jenny); Pat Monahan, Sting, and John Popper (Ken); and Daryl Hall (Ken and Robin).
Edwin thought that the panelists' wrong guesses for him were very funny. He said,“I thought the Gene Simmons guess was hilarious. And also the Dave Matthews guess ‘cause I never thought that I sounded anything like Dave. And to be in the same sentence as Daryl Hall or Sting was … that’s an incredible compliment in my book.”
Edwin shared that he doesn’t know Robin, but he figured that he would guess him right. He explained,“I don’t know him, but I know him to be a student of music, and he’s such a great singer, and he’s got such a great ear. Of all the people on the show, I figured it would be him.”

“I’ve Just Always Liked Celtic Knots Just Because Of The Idea Of Eternal Love & The Endlessness Of It”
Before Edwin was unmaskedduringThe Masked Singerseason 13, his Crack the Case Clue Case was opened, revealing his most meaningful clue: a Celtic knot. The symbol appears on hisEdwin McCain Livealbum cover. During his interview,Edwin showed the Celtic knot tattoo on his arm, and explained the symbol’s significance to him.
Edwin shared, “I’ve just always liked Celtic knots just because of the idea of eternal love and the endlessness of it. And I was influenced heavily by a band called Earth, Wind and Fire when I was a kid, and they used a lot of symbolism in their music in their careers. They used a lot of Egyptian symbolism. And so I kind of steered towards the Celtic. But I’ve always liked that concept of the Celtic cross, Celtic knot.”
Edwin Might Add His Masked Singer Songs To His Concert Set Lists
“That’s A Great Song…”
Edwin shared that he might add some of hisMasked Singersongs to his concert set lists. He shared,“I probably would play the REO song [“Can’t Fight This Feeling”], or maybe even the Lady Gaga song [“Million Reasons”] [which] was a lot of fun. That song is very, very emotional. That’s a great song.”
Edwin Shared His Future Plans
“Once You’re Finished, It’s Time To Start All Over Again…”
AfterThe Masked Singer,Edwin has a lot of plans, including a concert tour. He revealed,“Well, it’s kind of like painting the Golden Gate Bridge. You know, once you’re finished, it’s time to start all over again. We did a tour last year with Hootie and the Blowfish and Collective Soul. And now we’re going to be out with Train all summer. And when we get finished with that, we’ll see who’s next. My goal is to play as many shows as I can while I’m upright, and then we’ll see what happens after that.”
