There are few things I love more than DC Comics and Halloween, so even though we’re still sweating through summer, DC’s new fall-inspired costumes forWonder WomanandSupergirlhave me fully ready for sweater weather. These outfits aren’t just fun seasonal updates; they’re so stylish and creative that they absolutely deserve to be turned into real merch for fans.
… he nails the classic “hot lumberjack” vibe perfectly with Clark…
DC has recently released its September solicitations, andamong the highlights is the publisher’s new“Pumpkin Spicy Variant”cover line. This themed series spans across several ongoing titles and features characters embracing the spirit of autumn with Halloween and fall-inspired costumes and redesigns.
Some of the standout entries include Chuma Hill’s variant for Supergirl#5, set for release on June 30, 2025, and Yasmine Putri’s variant forWonder Woman#25, coming out on June 19, 2025. But it’s not just DC’s heroines stealing the spotlight. Tom Reilly’s variant forSuperman#30, releasing July 09, 2025, shifts focus to the Man of Steel, though in his case,it’s less about what he’s wearing and more about what he isn’t.
With Supergirl’s New Movie on the Horizon, There’s No Better Time for a Merch Release
Cover D Chuma Hill Pumpkin Spicy Variant forSupergirl#5 (2025)
I’m the type of person who has daytime pajamas and nighttime pajamasbecause there is nothing I love more than comfy, fun clothes. Hence, I’m always on the prowl for my next loungewear find. So when I saw Hill’s Pumpkin Spice Variant featuring Supergirl in a casual, Halloween-themed outfit, I couldn’t help but immediately wish it were buyable merch.
In this cover, Kara is pictured wearing skeletal leggings (something I personally own) and a sweatshirt featuring theSuper-Family’s classic“S”shield. However, what sets this apart from Kara’s typical garb is the fact thatit swaps out the classic red, blue, and yellow color scheme for pumpkin orange, goblin green, and squash yellow.
Additionally, this outfit is far more casual and loose-fitting than what Supergirl usually wears, making it a perfect piece for casual wear and merch. There is not nearly enough casual, high-quality Supergirl merch in the world. However, I’m hopeful that withJames Gunn’s upcomingSupergirlmovie, DC will give fans more merch options, and hopefully take inspiration from stunning variant covers like Hill’s.
Wonder Woman & Cheetah Get the PURR-Fect Halloween Makeover
Cover E Yasmine Putri Pumpkin Spicy Variant forWonder Woman#25 (2025)
Ever since I first encountered Yasmine Putri’s work inTom Taylor’sDark Knights of Steelseries, she has been one of my favorite DC artists. She always nails it when it comes to delivering original and fun character designs, and her Pumpkin Spicy Variant is no exception, asshe gives Wonder Woman and Cheetah a complete Halloween makeover.
Here, Putri pictures Diana in classic witch attire, complete with a broom and witch’s hat. However, the best part of this design is that it’s still uniquely tailored to Wonder Woman, with the pointed hat featuring Diana’s signature star-spangled design. Additionally,Cheetah is imagined as a small cat, a clever way of paying tribute to classic witch tropes.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I personally would love if DC made Diana’s witch’s hat into buyable merch.I am an avid Wonder Woman cosplayer, and I typically dress up as Diana for Halloween. So the moment I saw this cover, I knew exactly how I wanted to spice up this year’s costume andcan’t wait to dress up as Witchy Wonder Woman, even if I have to make the hat myself.
Superman’s Pumpkin Spice Variant Is a Romance Novel in the Making
Cover E Tom Reilly Pumpkin Spicy Variant forSuperman#30 (2025)
As an avid romance novel reader, Tom Reilly’s Pumpkin Spicy Variant earned a special kind of appreciation from me, as it reminded me of many covers I’ve come across in the romance section of bookstores. It even seems like Reilly might be familiar with popular romance tropes himself, becausehe nails the classic“hot lumberjack”vibe perfectly with Clarkin this cover art.
The Man of Steel is shown without his typical Superman garb and is instead dressed in casual clothing: boots, jeans, and a flannel tied around his hips, leaving his chest on full display. He’s surrounded by an uncountable number of chopped logs, playing into the fall romance trope of the rugged, blue-collar man prepping for the cooler season.
This Pumpkin Spicy Variant doesn’t offer fans any buyable merch. However, it still deserves a shoutout as a standout entry in the series. One of the best things DC has done in recent years is fully embrace seasonal variant covers, and theseSuperman,Wonder Woman, andSupergirldesigns are exceptional examples of the talent DC has on display.
