Today, Nintendo hosted a Direct showcase that featured the upcoming fighting gameSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. While this event focused on everything from theaddition ofCastlevaniafighters to a plentitude of new modes and features, it also focused on smaller details such as assist trophies, pokeballs, and items.

Of course, theseSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateitems cover everything from items such as the Banana Gun and Death’s Scythe to new assist trophies in the form of Zero, Knuckles, Krystal, Klaptrap, Kapp’n, Chef Kawasaki, Gray Fox, Nikki, Shovel Knight, the Majora’s Mask moon, and Rathalos (Monster Hunter). Pokeball assists, which have been a staple of the franchise, also return, bringing with them new Pokemon from the latest installment in the franchise.

These Pokemon include Abra, Ditto, and Vulpix, as well asSunandMoonmascots Solgaleo and Lunala, Mimikyu, Pyukumuku, and Morelull. Alolan pokemon, island-inspired alternative forms first introduced in the aforementioned installments, are also coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewith Alolan Exeggutor and Alolan Vulpix taking center stage. Hopefully, more are showcased soon, as it seems unlikely that just two Alolan Pokemon will be present in the game. Check out this portion of the showcase below:

As seen in the video above, some of these new Pokemon have some unique abilities. Although some of them have standard attacks, Alolan Exeggutor becomes an unpassable wall that also doubles as a jump-off point, and Dittos transform into the player that chose it and provides secondary support.

Nevertheless, combined in conjunction with other big reveals such asthe 103+ stagesand the addition of King K Rool fromDonkey Kong, fans of the fighting franchise got a real treat today. Hopefully, Nintendo hasn’t shown its full hand yet, as the game is still a few months away from launch, but considering the popularity of the game, it seems likely to get a positive reception.
