WithSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatehaving recently been declaredAmazon’s best-selling video game of 2018, there’s no doubt there are a plethora of players out there still exploring everything that’s available in the Nintendo Switch exclusive. Although there’s already a ton to do in the crossover fighting game, it looks as if the Big N is set to add even more content for fans, as the company recently announced it will be holding an NES-themed Spirit event soon.
According to the Japanese Twitter account forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, the title’s next Spirit Board event will take place between January 4 and June 17, 2025, and it will feature Spirits from titles that made appearances on the NES and Famicom Disk System. It hasn’t been announced as to whether or not there will be any event-exclusive Spirits yet, but as indicated by an image released by Nintendo, the likes ofExcitebike, Kid Dracula, Sukapon fromJoy Mech Fight, Stanley fromDonkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong & Lady fromDonkey Kong, Balloon Fighter, and more will be included.
For those unaware, the forthcoming NES-themed Spirit Board event forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis set to follow a recentMario-themed Spirit eventthat featured myriad characters from the games starring the iconic plumber. While not every figure from theMariotitles were represented, it ran the gamut of the franchise, with the likes of Boo, Chain Chomp, Koopa Troopa, Pauline, Toad, Waluigi, and more making an appearance. It also included the event-exclusive Spirits such as the Novice Dice Block and the Advanced River Survival fromMario Party, and the Ace Golden Dash Mushroom fromMario Kart.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see what–or if–Spirits are chosen as exclusives for the impending NES-themed Spirit Board event, as the classic console has a wide range of IPs and characters from which to choose. The addition of Spirits has brought a whole new level of player collection to theSuper Smash Bros.franchise inUltimate, and this next event will likely serve as a solid diversion to keep fans busy until Nintendo starts to release the game’sChallenger Packs as DLC.
