Stephen Kingshares a major update for his next book set in the Dark Tower universe. In October 2024, King teased that he was writing a new story"back in Mid-World…and the Territories.“This led to speculation about whether the new story would be a continuation of themainDark Towerbook seriesor if it would be set in that universe.
A few months later, in January 2025,Stephen King confirmedTalisman 3as the book that he had previously hinted at. This explains the reference to the parallel universe known as the Territories that is featured inThe Talisman.
On Threads,Kinghas now shared that he isalmost done writingTalisman 3. The update comes only months after teasing and later confirming that he was writingTalisman 3and that he had returned to the Dark Tower universe.
What This Means For Talisman 3
This latest update indicates a quick turnaround for the latestStephen King book. When revealing his return to Mid-World and the Territories in October 2024, he admitted that he didn’t"know if it would develop into anything,“and that this is something he only discovers once he gets far enough into the writing.
Now, less than a year later, he is almost done with the book, and there is a chance that itcould be released as early as 2026. While it is not a direct sequel to the end of the mainDark Towerbooks following Roland Deschain, King has once again confirmed that part of the story will be set in Mid-World.
With some readers unaware that a secondTalismanbook was ever written, King also clarified the timeline, and revealed thatJack Sawyer is 57 years old inTalisman 3. This gives a better idea of when the story takes place in relation to the first and second installments and where Jack will be in his life when the new story begins.

The Dark Tower Universe Is Alive & Well
While I am more so a fan of the mainDark Towerbooks than I am ofThe Talisman, it is still exciting to know that a third book in the latter series is on the way, that it is almost done, and that it will return to Mid-World and the Territories.
The latest update also makes me further appreciate how prolific of a writer King is. Not many authors can go so quickly from being in the earliest stages of writing to being almost done while also balancing numerous other projects. I have no doubt thatTalisman 3will be another excellent Stephen King book and a worthy addition to the Dark Tower universe.
