For months, rumors have persisted that Activision is remaking the originalSpyro the Dragongames for modern consoles. While we are still waiting on an official announcement, it looks like a proper reveal for theSpyro the Dragonremakes will come our way sooner rather than later, thanks to a strange new marketing tactic by Activision.

IGN associate news editor Jonathon Dornbush was mailed what appears to be a purple dragon egg, along with a note that says, “Something’s about to hatch.” The note is signed by someone named “Falcon McBob,” which just so happens to be the name of theunverified Twitter accountwith the handle @SpyroTheDragon.

While this is still far from a confirmation thatSpyro the Dragonremakes are in development, it is the strongest evidence yet. It seems as though Activision is now actively teasing its reveal, which means that an announcement could come any day now.

While some may be surprised thatSpyro the Dragonappears to be making a comeback, the writing has been on the wall for months. Even if one discounts the many leaks about the game, there’s the fact that Activision itself has made it no secret that it plans onaggressively pursuing remasters. Plus, when one considers the huge sales success that was theCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, aSpyro the Dragoncollection seems like a no-brainer.

What remains to be seen is if theSpyro the Dragonremakes will be timed-exclusive for PS4 likeCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Since the original games were three of the most beloved PS1 exclusives back in the day, it would make some sense to have the remakes only available on PS4 for at least a little bit. However, Activision could potentially stand to make a lot more money if it releases the remakes across all platforms simultaneously.

Before fans get too concerned about what platforms theSpyro the Dragonremakes are in development for, though, they should wait for the project to be officially announced. Luckily, if the purple dragon egg IGN received in the mail is any indication, an announcement should be right around the corner.

TheSpyro the Dragonremakes are rumored to be in development for unspecified consoles.
