While waiting for players to join aSplatoon 2multiplayer match, an awesome musical time-waster is available to fool around with. The quirky feature was discovered as part ofthis weekend’sSplatoon 2Global Testfire event, a stress test spread across six hour-long multiplayer sessions. All it requires is the player to be waiting in a multiplayer lobby as it hunts down additional players. After that, the music basically plays itself.
TheSwitch’s online multiplayer lobbywill provide a beat, but it’s up to the player to provide everything else. Pressing any of the directional or lettered buttons on the Joy-Con will produce a sound effect, which can then be distorted moving the joysticks in different directions. Put it all together and it makes for a fun, homemade song that can keep players distracted long enough for the lobby to fill with players and start. Also, it feels pretty great pretending to be aSplatoonDJ.
It appears that the musical feature is a replacement for the popular Squid Jump mini-game from the originalSplatoon. Just like how the music inSplatoon 2works, Squid Jump was available to play during the lobby wait between online multiplayer matches inSplatoon. The only problem is that Squid Jump was played on the Wii U GamePad’s screen. Since there’s no way to have two screens available on the Nintendo Switch, sadly Squid Jump can’t work the same way in the sequel. Maybe Squid Jump will show up in a different capacity inSplatoon 2.
For those who want to try out this quirky musical easter egg for themselves, there’s still one more chance. One final Global Testfire will start on March 26at 4:00am PT. Yes, that’s 4:00am and not 4:00pm. It’s scheduled for Japanese players and not North American players, unfortunately. Nevertheless, it’s still a chance to play for those who are desperate. Just make sure to download the Global Testfire app via the Nintendo eShop on the Switch as soon as possible. The download can take a while.
Splatoon 2launchesexclusively on the Nintendo Switch later this year. It’s unclear whether there will be a second Global Testfire event prior toSplatoon 2’s launch, but stay tuned for more information in the weeks and months to come.
