Long-timeSaturday Night Livecast member Mikey Day is putting to bed our biggest fear:he will be returning for season 51. We can all let out a big sigh knowing Mikey will be returning, but there was a lot of speculation recently on who would be coming back toSNLand who wouldn’t be. Kenan Thompson, anSNLcast member for the last 22 years, evenhinted at potential changes ahead of season 51. So when a familiar face confirms they’re sticking around, it’s a big deal for loyal viewers, which is exactly what Mikey did.

Mikey, who’s been on the show since 2016, isknown for standout sketches like the Beavis and Butt-Head one with Ryan Gosling, “Haunted Elevator” with Tom Hanks, and his impression of Donald Trump Jr., and is aniconic member of theSNLcast. After nine years on the show, Mikey is one cast member we can all rely on to make us laugh, making him a key part of the ensemble. His return helps balance the cast and reassures viewers thatSNL’s foundation is still in good hands.

Mikey Day Confirmed He’s Not Leaving Saturday Night Live

With so many longtime cast members leaving in recent years, it’s easy to assume more exits are on the way. That’s why Mikey confirming he will becoming back forSNLseason 51is such a relief. In a recent interview withVariety,he confirmed he’s not going anywhere, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

“I want to work there for as long as I can […]. “I want to work there until it’s sad.”

It’s a funny yet sincere way of saying he still loves his job and wants to be on the show for as long as they’ll let him. Mikey first joinedSNLas a writer in 2013 before being promoted to a full-time cast member in 2016. Even with his secondary projects like being the host of Netflix’sIs It Cake?, Mikey clearly isn’t done withSNL. His return is great news for fans who appreciate his absurd yet laugh-out-loud sketches.

Mikey Day Is Quietly One Of SNL’s Secret Weapons

He’s Behind So Many Iconic Sketches

While Day isn’t the most famous cast member onSNL, he’s become one of the show’s most essential performers. No matter what Day is doing in his sketches, he knows how to provide the laughs. Since he’s also been a writer forSNL,Day knows how to create viral moments with his sketches, and the Beavis and Butt-Head one is the perfect example. Day and his writing partner, Streeter Seidell, had been toying with the idea for years, and it finally came to life when Gosling was asked to host.

Day was ready to give up on that sketch, as he had tried it with several other hosts in the past. However, when Gosling came around to host again, the sketch took off, and it became a viral hit. Despite Day coming up with the idea, he’s so humble and credits Gosling for truly making the sketch what it was. Day may not always grab the spotlight, butSNLwouldn’t be the same without him; he’s truly one of the show’s secret weapons.

With So Much Turnover For SNL Season 51, The Show Needs A Constant Like Day To Remain

SNL Season 51 Will Look Different Compared To Season 50

While nothing has been confirmed about who is leavingSNL, I’m happy to know that Mikey will be appearing next season.SNLis known for its turnover ahead of every season, andafter Kenan’s remarks about season 51 looking different, it’s safe to say several cast members may not be returning.

With cast members moving on and new faces likely to join next season,Saturday Night Livewill need a familiar voice like Mikey to help keep things grounded. His constant presence not only maintains a sense of continuity but also helps guide newer cast members as the show enters yet another transition phase. As long as Mikey is still on, I’ll still be watching every Saturday night once it returns this fall.
