TheSega Genesis Miniarrives in September later this year, Sega’s response to Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classic consoles. The emulation device will hold an impressive 42 games, which Sega has been announcing in waves. Prior to Tuesday, Sega had revealed a total of 30 games, including classic Sega games likeAltered Beast,Golden Axe,Shining Force, and bothSonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2. Today marks the reveal of the final wave of Sega Genesis Mini titles, adding 12 more classics.
Highlighting the new wave of Sega Genesis Mini confirmed games are two games that stand in stark contrast and yet will likely conjure similar feelings of nostalgia. The first is the iconic tile-matching gameTetris, which admittedly isn’t often associated with Sega or the Genisis. The second is Sega’s own tile-matching game that did its very best to recreate the feeling ofTetriswhile standing on its own. Ask a Sega fan and they might even say it’s better thanTetris.Columns, as demanded, will be a part of the Sega Genesis Mini collection.
BeyondTetrisandColumns, there are ten other new additions to theSega Genesis Mini line-up. They range from platformers likeAlisia Dragoon, SHMUPs likeDarius, to motorcycle racing games that are better known for their brutal combat likeRoad Rash 2.
While Sega certainly brought its A-game when it put together this 42-game collection, there are always going to be some requests that can’t be met. Some of the most requested games that didn’t make the cut includeRistar,Sonic 3andSonic & Knuckles,Snow Bros, and licensed games likeAladdin,X-Men 2, andJurassic Park.
With the Sega Genesis Mini’s full line-up of 42 games now revealed, all fans can do is wait for launch. TheSega Genesis Mini release date is September 19. It will cost $79.99 and includes two wired controllers, power adapters, and an HDMI cable.
