A trailer for a presumably forthcomingSEGA Genesis Collectionwas posted today before being quickly taken down. It is currently unknown why the trailer was removed, but SEGA fans nevertheless learned a few details about the game, one of which was that it may release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Notably, the Nintendo Switch is not on the list to receive a copy of thisSEGA Genesis Collection.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean a SEGA character won’t appear in the upcomingSuper Smash Bros for the Switch, wherein Knuckles makes ourcrossover wishlist. Still, not being able to playSonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage,orGolden Axeon the Switch could understandably be a bummer for some gamers.
Another detail concerning the collection states that it will release on May 29, although this should be taken with a grain of salt. Concerning this accidental leak and date, a Sega spokesperson stated, “the gun was jumped a little bit there…When we are in a position to properly announce it, with an official release date and official SEGA communication, we will. Stay tuned!”
It remains unknown who removed the trailer, but if it were SEGA, this wouldn’t be the company’s first blunder like this. Recently, the company accidentally released thefullYakuza 6game as a demo, but it doesn’t seem likely that gamers would complain about these kinds of mistakes.
The final detail learned from the leaked trailer is that Steam’s apartment-like menu for 2016’sSEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classic Hubseems to have been ported to this collection, and it is worth noting that it featured a way for users to upload mods; however, it remains to be seen if this collection could do something similar. While waiting for SEGA to make an official announcement for this forthcoming collection, fans may be excited to know thatShenmue 3is slated to release later this year and will leaveits ending open for a sequel.
TheSEGA Genesis Collectionhas yet to be officially announced, although it appears to be in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
