It has been a while sinceSea of Thievesfirst hit the scene, and it has since grown with additional content. Now therelease date of Season 2 has been confirmedand players will, presumably, have more to look forward to.

While many new players are checking outSea of Thievesfor the first time, veterans have had a long time to get to know the game. These same players have had a long time to hash out their biggest complaints and desired fixes, and one in particular reigns supreme: trolling. Being a game where PvP can seriously derail the experience, there’s some hope that a new emote shown in the Season 2 trailer could turn things around a bit.

AsSea of Thievesreaches a massive player milestone, its troll problem becomes all the more apparent. Essentially, since players can freely attack other players and rob them (it is a pirate game after all), the pace of the game is dictated largely by its PvP elements. However, the trailer for Season 2 showed what appears to be an emote that allows a player to hide in a barrel. It’s possible that this cunning camouflage may prevent trolls from so easily finding and harassing players, but nothing is certain as of this article.

The hide in a barrel emote could potentially allow players to hide from enemies if outnumbered, saving them from respawning. Of course, if a player’s ship is being boarded, turning into a barrel will likely only be of limited use. After all, odds are the owner(s) of the ship are still aboard somewhere if it’s encountered in open water, so players will likely just begin hacking apart every barrel in sight. Hiding is all well and good, but in a game thathad to pull voice and text chat in places due to toxicity, it’s likely more extreme measures must be taken.

As the game stands, many players make easy prey for coordinated teams of robbers. New, solo players in particular often fall victim to raids from four player crews, in part due tocommon and easily exploitable mistakes.

Sea of Thievesis available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
