It’s been a while since fans have experienced a new intellectual property from Sony first party studio, Naughty Dog. The Santa Monica based company is well known for its previous work on franchises likeCrash Bandicoot,Jak and Daxter, theUnchartedseries, andThe Last of Us. Even withThe Last of Us 2having suffered multiple delays andrumored to be launching in 2020now, it apparently hasn’t stopped the studio from working on a brand new game.
The rumored leak originally comes from 4Chan and reposted on Reddit, so fans should take the following details with a grain of salt. The plot seems to center around a secret conflict that has lasted for entire ages, eventually leading to the fall of humanity. The world is said to be inspired by Steampunk and unlike the company’s previous games, this one is going to be from a first person perspective. The game is also said to feature two protagonists, one being a talented female scientist and the other a unjustly wanted criminal man. The two eventually met up and work together once they discover a hidden truth likely related to the previously mentioned conflict.
While the prospect of a new IP from Naughty Dog is exciting, the company has been in the news lately for some not so great things. A recent report outlines the experiences from several people who worked on games likeUnchartedandThe Last of Usandthe expected crunch culture that existed. Details included worrying information such as 70-hour weeks, 14-hour days, and crunch periods that, at times, could last as long as 6 months. While there doesn’t seem to be a mandate for crunch, peer pressure and the desire to achieve perfection appear to be the driving forces.
