Even though there hasn’t been an announcement by Activision, it’s a foregone conclusion that a newCall of Dutygame developed by Treyarch will launch this coming November. There’s no official information on the game just yet, but new rumors making the rounds may have revealed its title, setting, and more.
According to supposed industry insider Marcus Sellars, 2018’sCall of Dutywill be calledCall of Duty: Black Ops 4, and it will be available for the Nintendo Switch. Sellars also claims thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 4will be set in modern times and will feature “boots on the ground” gameplay, meaning that fans shouldn’t have to worry about jetpacks or wall-running returning to the franchise any time soon.
However, fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt. It’s true that Sellars has accurately predicted some industry events in the past, like the January Nintendo Direct, for instance, but many of his supposed leaks have not come to pass.
That being said, it would make sense for the nextCall of Dutyto beBlack Ops 4and for it to be set in modern times. The rumored Nintendo Switch port also seems like a no-brainer, given the console’s runaway success and the fact that manyCall of Dutygames in the past have appeared on Nintendo consoles.
Furthermore, there is actually some evidence to back up these latest rumors. Previously, the voice actor forBlack Opscharacter Frank Woods seemingly confirmedBlack Ops 4while talking to a fan on Twitter, and there was also ajob posting by Treyarchthat suggested the nextCall of Dutywould be set in modern times. Considering this evidence, there may very well be some truth to the claims Sellars is making.
Whether or notCall of Duty2018 isBlack Ops 4as predicted by both Sellars and theCowen & Company research firmremains to be seen. However, we should know more about the upcoming game by E3 this June.
