Risk of Rain 2was a nice surprise at Gearbox Software’s PAX East 2019 panel. The game has proven popular in Steam Early Access, and has become somewhat of a sleeper hit. By many accounts, it seems as though Hopoo Games has successfully transitioned the 2DRisk of Raininto a full-fledged 3D experience withRisk of Rain 2.
One of the more appealing elements ofRisk of Rain 2is unlocking all of the characters. One of the more popularRisk of Rain 2charactersis Mercenary, and some players may be looking to unlock him as soon as possible. There is some debate as to how exactly Mercenary is unlocked, but the following method seems to be the most reliable.
How to Unlock Mercenary in Risk of Rain 2
To unlock Mercenary inRisk of Rain 2, players need to find a Celestial Portal, then go through it to find an Obelisk. Upon reaching the Obelisk, they have to sacrifice themselves. This will unlock Mercenary inRisk of Rain 2, but there is some disagreement about how to make a Celestial Portal appear.
It seems as though most players are encountering a Celestial Portal inRisk of Rain 2after beating Rallypoint Delta. Others have reported just coming across Celestial Portals at random while playing the game, and not after clearing the Rallypoint Delta stage. Considering the contradicting claims about Celestial Portals, it seems as though players basically just have to playRisk of Rain 2until a Celestial Portal happens to pop up, then interact with the Obelisk as described.
Since some players seem to have no problem finding a Celestial Portal and unlocking Mercenary inRisk of Rain 2, whereas others are having a lot of trouble, it’s possible that the Celestial Portals aren’t working quite as intended. After all,Risk of Rain 2is an early access title, with at least a full year of development to go before it’s ready for launch, which will include bug fixes, new characters (with the firstnew character rumored to be Bandit), and more. However, that’s just speculation at this time when it comes to the Celestial Portals, and it could just be that Celestial Portals are random, but more likely to appear after the Rallypoint Delta stage.
