The post-credits scene ofRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 8 calls back to a great gag from earlier in the episode, but it also shows a rare bonding moment between Rick and Jerry.Rick and Mortyseason 8, episode 8, “Nomortland,” sees Jerry embarking on an interdimensional adventure with another Jerry, getting into all kinds of multiversal hijinks.
The other Jerry, who comes from a parallel universe where everyone has a five o’clock shadow, introduces our Jerry to “The Road.” The Road is an interdimensional pathway between universes inhabited by rogue Jerrys who have lost their families. This other Jerry is a perfect foil for our Jerry, because he holds a mirror up to all of Jerry’s flaws.
Early in the episode,to distract Rick from finding out about his portal-hopping antics, Jerry attempts to make small talkwith his father-in-law. He brings up the reality showNaked and Afraid— which, in the “parmesian” dimension, is calledNaked and Alone— and mentions that the host seems to enjoy drinking yak pee to survive.
Rick is initially caught off-guard by Jerry’s comments, and demands that he never blindside him with unsolicited small talk ever again. But by the timeRick and Morty’s signature post-credits scenerolls around, Rick has clearly changed his tune, becausehe and Jerry are watchingNaked and Alonetogether, bonding over their love of the show.
