Capcom has announced that it will be shutting down the multiplayer gameResident Evil Re:Verse. The game only lasted for three years.
The game’s service will end on August 18, 2025, at 11:59 PM PDT. Capcom claims it was originally released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of theResident Evilseries. The game apparently accomplished its initial goal of celebrating the franchise, so it can now be taken down. Capcom’s announcement didn’t mention the game’s poor reviews and low playerbase over its lifetime.
The game received mostly negative reviews on Steam, andaccording to SteamDB, the highest number of players ever recorded was around 2,115, but that was roughly two and a half years ago. Otherwise, there are only 26 currently playing, and a peak of 56 in the last 24 hours. That’s not a complete picture of the game’s performance—it was also available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One—but there’s not much evidence the game was more successful on those platforms.
Starting on July 19, 2025, at 9:00 PM PST, the game will no longer be available for purchase in online stores, and all downloadable content (like character skins and RP boosters) will also be removed. However, players who already have a download code or have downloaded the game previously will still be able to access it until the service ends. There don’t seem to be any details on refunds given, so there likely won’t be any, meaning anything purchased is completely gone. However, it’s a good reminder that anything purchased digitally is only there until it’s not, which is why some people arepetitioning the UKfor changes to game ownership.
The game is still available to buyon Steam at a 60% discount, but keep in mind that on June 26, 2025, the game will no longer be playable. There will likely not be any self-hosted servers to keep the game going since the game was so unpopular. RP Boosters and Premium Pass benefits will still be available until the service shuts down.
