Players spend a great deal of time inRed Dead Redemption 2riding their horse around the open world, and so it makes sense that Rockstar has put a greater focus on how players can interact with their noble steed this time around. However, not all of the horse interactivity options are available right off the bat, and in fact,Red Dead Redemption 2players have to unlock the ability to do some of the most basic horse care functions.
One of those abilities is brushing horses. As players ride their horse around the open world, it will get dirty, which will have a negative impact on its stamina. To remedy this, the horse will need to be brushed, butprotagonist Arthur Morgandoesn’t start the game with a horse brush. The game even prompts players to brush their horse before it’s even possible for them to do so, which may cause some confusion.
The first step to being able to brush your horse inRed Dead Redemption 2is getting a horse brush, which is done through the mission Exit Pursued By A Bruised Ego. This mission is giving out by Hosea at the very first camp in the game, so speak with him to get started.
At some point during the mission, Hosea and Arthur will head into Valentine to sell an unruly horse to the local stables. It’s during this part of the mission that players are encouraged to purchase a new horse of their own, or if they pre-ordered the game, get theirfree War Horse. After they’ve selected their new horse, the stable owner gives players a brush so that they can take care of it better.
To actually use the brush to brush the horse, players need to approach a stationary horse. Pull in the left trigger to focus on the horse, and there should be a list of options that come up. One of those options will be to brush the horse, so do that a few times to get the dirt off of the animal and return its stamina core to normal.
Once players know how to brush their horse, their adventures inRed Dead Redemption 2should go a bit smoother.
Red Dead Redemption 2is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
