TheRed Dead OnlineBeta has been running for a week now, and many players are already rushing to the multiplayer component ofRed Dead Redemption 2to try it out. Although Rockstar Games mentioned at the start of theRed Dead OnlineBeta in November that it could not guarantee that player progress and stats will not be wiped after the Beta ends, players will be happy to know that Rockstar has now confirmed that players will in fact be able to keep their progress made during the Beta.
Rockstar Games gave a Beta update in a tweet recently that confirms that it “currently [does] not have any plans to reset [stats and progress] as part of the Beta’s rollout.” Although the tweet is slightly ambiguous, as “currently” implies that Rockstar may change its mind in the future, for now at least it seems that players will get to keep the progress that they have made during the Beta. The tweet further states that Rockstar will release an update soon that will work on “game stability” and “economy balancing,” which seems to be a particularly big concern for players.
It is of course not uncommon for large-scale Betas to reset ranks and player stats ahead of the full release, and many big game Betas, such asCall of Duty, got wiped before the game’s release. However, it seems that recently developers are making increasing efforts to keep Beta progress, as it gives players more incentive to play the Beta, such as theFallout 76Beta progress thatgot carried overto the full game.
WhileRed Dead Onlinehas been received with mixed responses, players seem generally enthusiastic about the game’s online mode and its future potential. Many players point out that Betas are there for identifying problems in a game, and should not be judged as a completed game. Considering thepoor receptionof the completely onlineFallout 76though, many players may be skeptical aboutRed Dead Online.
Red Dead Onlineis playable throughRed Dead Redemption 2, which is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
