WhilePsychonauts2received an amazing crowdfunded kickstart, gathering 1 million dollars in less than 24 hours, news has been scarce about the highly-anticipated sequel. However, a bit of unwanted news has been recently revealed regarding the game’s release date. Originally expected, although never confirmed, to release some time in 2018, the developer Double Fine has delayedPsychonauts 2until 2019.

However, not all recent developments are bad news concerning the game. Not that long ago the development team showed off thefirst playable levelfor the sequel, which may have affected many gamer’s nostalgia for the game. If nothing else, this extra time seems to be taken seriously by Double Fine, hopefully meaning the game lives up to expectations.

Thankfully, however, Double Fine didn’t delay the game without giving its fan base a bone. Alongside the delay announcement, the studio released a video detailing some of Raz’s family and the game’s character creation. While the news is dampened with the delay, at least the company has something to show for the game. Check out the announcement video here:

It is also worth noting that, while the wait forPsychonauts 2seems long, it is considerably shorter thanthe wait forBrutal Legend 2. At E3 2017, Double Fine revealed it wanted to develop anotherBrutal Legendgame, but crowdfunding was going to be a major issue. IfPsychonauts 2delivers a worthwhile experience for its fan base, the funding may cease to be an issue.

While another year withoutPsychonauts 2is set to pass, more news may soon ramp up for the anticipated sequel. Currently, there are several videos containinggameplay footage, and hopefully, this coverage expands during the long wait. The good news is that project lead Zak McClendon stated the team “knows how long it’s going to take to finish the game,” but they want to be sure before official revealing a date; hopefully, it won’t be late in 2019.

Psychonauts 2is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2019.
