Without a doubt, today’s Nintendo Direct Mini contained a lot of information in regards to what’s on the horizon for the Switch. The brief press event saw confirmation of new releases for the console like the upcoming port ofDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Breeze, and news regarding preexisting titles for the system such asPokken Tournament DX. Speaking of the latter, the developers of the fighting game have now revealed new playable Pokemon will be added into the Switch release, with both Aegislash and Blastoise on the way as playable fighters.

Come Aug 01, 2025, the Ghost/Steel Pokemon Aegislash will be added toPokken Tournament DXby way of a Battle Pack DLC, along with a support team that includes Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. As far as Aegislash’s abilities are concerned, it can switch between Sword and Shield forms to let players choose whether they prefer fighting offensively or defensively. Mega Rayquaza has a charge attack that knocks opponents to the other side of the arena, while Mimikyu goes close quarters with its Shadow Claw attacks.

Following the arrival of Aegislash and its support crew, a second wave of DLC will be added toPokken Tournament DXon August 12, 2025, with the familiar Generation 1 Pokemon Blastoise joining the roster with a support set including the Mythical Pokemon Mew and Celebi. Unfortunately, no new footage was shown of Blastoise, Mew, or Celebi, but one can surmise that Blastoise’s Ultimate Attack will probably involveits Mega Evolved formin some way.

For thosePokken Tournament DXfans keeping count, Blastoise and Aegislash’s eventual addition to the title will bring the list of playable fighters up to 23 in total. And considering this DLC announcement surprised the majority of the fighting game’s community, Bandai Namco and Nintendo could potentially release even more fighters in the near future to ensure the gameplay remains fresh and varied for both competitive players and casual fans alike.
