The content available inPokemon GOhas ballooned since Niantic’s AR mobile game launched in 2016, notably through the release of newPokemon such as Deerling and Sawsbuck in a recent update. Additional mechanics and events have also made their way into the game, and it seems one of the next big events will feature mysterious red “Shadow Eggs.”

A teaser video featuring a number of red-spotted Pokemon eggs rocking back-and-forth in a misty, purple room has been posted by a few regionalPokemon GOTwitter accounts today, though as of this writing the English social media account is not one of them. The Italian language post has more in-depth text when translated via Google on Twitter, suggesting Team Instinct’s leader Spark found the “strange Red Eggs.”

All teasers regarding the new eggs suggest players should stay tuned for more information coming soon, but prior datamining offers a good idea of what fans can probably expect. According toPokemon GOleaks, these so-called “Strange Eggs"will be dropped by Team Rocket Leaders, only hatch Poison or Dark-type Pokemon, and contribute to a Special Research event that provides another chance to catch Shadow Mewtwo. Though leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, the Italian Twitter post seemingly confirms the connection, as its embedded media is labeled “SeptemberRocketEggsTeaser.”

Shadow Mewtwo was available during Pokemon GO Fest 2020, also as the prize encounter for research events involving Team Rocket. However, those who missed that event or those who want another chance at the special Legendary Pokemon variant should be interested in seeing it come around again if the leaks are accurate.

Whatever may be coming in the near future involving these mysterious red eggs is not the only event currently planned forPokemon GO. Halloween season brings a number of events into the game, including more opportunities to catch Giratina in Legendary Raids, andNiantic recently celebrated its fifth anniversarywith extra bonuses and features.

Pokemon GOis available now in selection regions on Android and iOS devices.
