After nearly a year of franchise fans begging for the inclusion of the iconic rare shiny spawns, Niantic finally delivered with rare shiny magikarp duringPokemon GO’sWater Festival. Today marksthe end to the game’s Water Festival, which saw increased spawn rates for water-type Pokemon and many fans were wondering if that also meant the end of shiny magikarp. Apparently, that is not going to be the case.

There is currently no timeline for how long the rare golden magikarp will continue to spawn inPokemon GO, but Niantic has confirmed that the shiny will stick around beyond the end of the Water Festival. This is good news for many players, since the shiny spawn rate seems to be extra rare and lots of players haven’t managed to get a hold of the golden fish yet.

Here’s the official confirmation from thePokemon GOtwitter account…

The big question on many hardcorePokemon GOplayers' minds now is whether or not there will be a change in theshiny magikarp spawn rate. So far, the Pokemon has been very difficult to spot, let alone manage to catch, so lots of fans are hoping that the magikarp might start to appear more often going forward. Niantic has not responded to that request, so at this point it seems safe to assume the spawn rate will continue to be rare and shiny magikarp will be the jewel of the collection for anyone who obtains one.

TheWater Festivalwas another successful event and seems to prove thatPokemon GO is at its best when lapsed players have a new, time-sensitive reason to login. As the weather starts to clear up this spring and more events continue to arrive, we look forward to seeing if aPokemon GOrenaissance is in the making.
