With items likeRemote Raid Passes and Lucky Eggs in the game’s Shop, it’s very easy forPokemon GOplayers to blow through PokeCoins at an alarming rate. Although additional PokeCoins can obviously be purchased for real world dollars and cents, players who want to earn 50 free Coins per day have to put in a decent amount of work at this point in most regions.
The current PokeCoin earning system is tied to time spent defending Gyms and feels pretty outdated given the major updates that the game has received in the last few years. Over the summer,an improved system has been tested in Australiathat offers alternative ways to earn some of the 50 Coins per day with other Tasks that don’t require defending a Gym. The tests have been going well apparently andPokemon GOis now looking to extend the test region to include some additional areas.

Players in the U.S. will have to continue to wait, but this is an encourage step. The new update expands the test region to three new regions. The update also makes some other tweaks to the system based on feedback that the team has received through the early months of testing…
“We’ve seen some promising results from the limited PokéCoin-rewards test and have found that more Trainers are receiving free PokéCoins than ever before. Trainers who cannot readily access Gyms have been able to earn PokéCoins through a wider variety of featured activities.
In response to positive community feedback and these results, we’re updating the current PokéCoin-rewards test for Trainers in Australia as well as expanding this test to Germany, New Zealand, and Taiwan. The update introduces Team GO Rocket–related tasks to the daily activities you can complete to earn PokéCoins.
The world of Pokémon GO has more ways than ever for Trainers to play, and we’re hoping to use the expanded range of activities to provide more Trainers the opportunity to earn PokéCoins. We will continue to listen to Trainer feedback as we make updates to the PokéCoin-rewards system. Stay tuned and stay safe!”
It’s definitely encouraging that the test area is expanding and hopefully at some point before the end of 2020 the new system will be put into place worldwide. For those who haven’t seen the details, here are the additional ways that trainers can earn some PokeCoins using the new system:
Use a Berry to help catch a Pokémon
Take a snapshot of your buddy
Power up a Pokémon
Transfer a Pokémon
Win a raid
The newTeam GO Rocket-themed Tasks have not been confirmed yet, but they will likely involve simple obstacles like defeating a grunt, catching a shadow Pokemon, purifying a shadow pokemon, and other basic tasks along those lines. The new system is very exciting for a lot of rural players who can’t easily find and hold a Gym for multiple hours on a daily basis, so hopefully it’s not a long wait before the whole community is enjoying the new and improved system. There’s no official release date yet, but be sure to check back as we learn more in the coming weeks and months.
As trainers continue working through these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting downthe best Unova Pokemon in the gameif improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for morePokemon GOstrategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
