While most legendary raids inPokemon GOsimply require regular raid passes, Mewtwo raids need special EX Raid Passes that are sent to players by Niantic. Yesterday evening,Pokemon GOplayers all over the world started receiving EX Raid Passes, marking the largest distribution of EX Raid Passes since the feature was introduced.
As for when these raids will actually start, it appears many will take place this weekend during the afternoon. Previous legendary raids with Mewtwo were in the evening, so this marks yet another change with how Niantic is handling these invite-only raids.
Niantic still seems to be trying to find the sweet spot when it comes to handling raids inPokemon GO. This should come as no surprise, as various features in the game have been changed over time, including gym battles, the way players hunt for Pokemon, and more. Raids are still a relatively new addition toPokemon GO’s suite of activities, and so it makes sense that there are some growing pains.
It will be interesting to see how Niantic continues to change legendary raids in the future. It’s no secret that some fans aren’t crazy aboutEX Raid Passesand how the Mewtwo legendary raids are invite-only, so maybe that will be axed entirely. Perhaps future raids will also be scaled to the location of the player, meaning those in a rural area would have just as much of a chance at defeating and catching legendary Pokemon as those in higher populated areas.
Of course, that’s just speculation at this time.Pokemon GOwill continue to evolve, and while we can’t say for certain how raids will change, it seems almost certain that they will, along with many of the game’s other features.
