Quasar Interactive started with a solid escape-the-room foundation forDo Not Openand gave it a roguelike twist: no two playthroughs will be exactly alike, and there is no save. All the riddles and spooky events players would normally encounter ina game likeDead by Daylightare instead generated randomly, meaning the replayability forDo Not Openis going to be its main selling feature.

Virtual reality is especially conducive to the horror genre. Ideally in any horror experience, be it VR, the cinema, or a haunted house, total immersion is key for the best scare. In that vein,PlayStation VR has been the platform of choiceto experiment with new horror game mechanics. The dynamically generated puzzle/event mechanic is a game-changer that is sure to up the intensity for adrenaline-addicted players.

Do Not Openwill have some stiff competition this year, asthe PS5 is expectingResident Evil 8and a rumoredSilent Hillreboot. That shouldn’t matter much in the long run, though, because adrenaline junkies tend to be open to new frightening experiences. Newbies might want to start withAmnesia: The Dark Descentand other horror gamesbefore they take on this title.

The release date forDo Not Openwill be announced soon as a PlayStation VR exclusive.
