The big reveal at the end of the PlayStation State of Play wasFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the PS5 version of the game that includes some sweeping enhancements. Those that have paid forFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeoutside of PS Plus will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no additional cost. But anyone that claimsFinal Fantasy 7 Remakethrough their PlayStation Plus subscription won’t be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free when it comes out this summer.

This revelation will likely upset some fans who were hoping to try the PS5 version ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakenext summer using their PS Plus copy. Perhaps this is part of the reason why Sony has includedfour free PS Plus games for March 2021. Along withFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, fans can claim the PS5 puzzle gameMaquette, theSouls-like shooter gameRemnant: From the Ashes, and as a bonus, the PlayStation VR gameFarpoint.

Despite this, some fans may still be upset that they will still have to pay full price forFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeon PS5 if they claim the game through PS Plus, as the new story content is PS5 exclusive. Besides confirming the PS5 upgrade,Square Enix also announced a new Yuffie episodethat’s all about the popular ninja character. Only those on PS5 can play the Yuffie episode, so they will either need to outright buyFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradeon PS5 at full price or upgrade their paid version ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeon PS4 and purchase theYuffie DLCseparately.

With fans having just learned about the free PS Plus games for March 2021, it remains to be seen if this decision will have any major backlash, though that should become apparent in the hours and days ahead.

Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis out now for PS4 and will come to PS5 on June 10.
