Sifuis an upcoming third-person action game for PC and PlayStation consoles that hopes to be one of the biggest surprises of early 2022. The game is said to feature over 150 unique attacks directly inspired from the Pak Mei kung fu style, pulling directly from real-life martial arts to create a more visceral action experience. To showcase whatSifuplayers will experience in-game, developer Sloclap partnered with director Christopher Clark Cowan for a live-actionSifufilm.
The 9-minuteSifushort film offers a glimpse of what players can expect whenSifuarrives on February 8. The film followsSifu’s protagonistas they hunt down a man named Fajar who killed their father. The focus of the short film, however, is on its martial arts action sequences. There’s a brief initial fight with two men to start the film, an extended sequence against a group of men, and then a final fight against a strong opponent wielding a makeshift sword.

While the martial arts are a focus of theSifufilm, it also manages to tie in the game’s biggest mechanic. When players take onfatal damage inSifu, when they die, they “reset.” It’s like an extra life, only when they come back the protagonist is multiple years older. It’s like they spent those years training to be a better fighter. The movie shows this by the protagonist going to a white room of sorts, where they practice defending against the move that killed them.
Still, even for those who aren’t interested in playingSifu, this shortSifumovie is a fun romp with several excitingmartial artsaction sequences. It’s a bit rough around the edges, as might be expected from an indie movie made for an indie game, but the fighting and camera work is impressive.
For those whose interest has been piqued, the wait forSifuwon’t be long. The third-person action game arrives in just one week. Alternatively, check out Sloclap’s previous game,Absolver, which features its own unique and in-depth melee combat system. Expect moreSifuinformation and media to arrive over the next week.
