AfterPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsbecame a worldwide phenomenon on PC,smashing various Steam concurrent user recordsin the process, Microsoft was quick to secure it as a console exclusive for the Xbox One. After spending quite a bit of time in early access, the game that popularized the battle royale genre had its full release earlier this month, but now it seems like it may be making its way over to the Xbox One’s main competitor, the PlayStation 4.
A Twitter user by the name of Nibel spottedPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundslisted for PlayStation 4, suggesting that an announcement could be right around the corner. IfPUBGis in fact making its way to PS4, it will likely skip the early access period (PS4 lacks a comprehensive early access program like on PC and Xbox), or it will be available in early access for a shorter time than its Xbox counterpart, at least. Of course, that’s just speculation at this time, and it’s hard to say definitively whatPUBG’s plan for PS4 is without more information.
As for whenPUBGcould be announced for PS4, there are multiple opportunities in the coming months. It’s possible that the game could be announced at the PlayStation Experience in December, or if not, it could make an appearance at The Game Awards. Alternatively,PUBGcould be announced for PS4 without any special event, especially since the game’s popularity has somewhat waned compared to what it was a year ago.
Considering how much Microsoft has invested in the Xbox One version ofPUBG, some may be surprised to see evidence that the battle royale game is possibly coming to the PlayStation 4. However, developer Bluehole has never been shy about its intentions tobringPUBGto every platform possible. Potentially, this means we could one day even see the game make its way to the Nintendo Switch, as well as future game consoles.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if there’s any substance to this, and ifPUBGreally is coming to the PlayStation 4. If so, fans should be able to expect more information in the coming months.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsis out now for iOS, Android, PC, and Xbox One.
