Devil May Cry 5will have a playable demo at this year’s Gamescom, according to the game’s director Hideaki Itsuno. Announced earlier today via Itsuno’s official Twitter page, the demo is officially complete and will be ready for Gamescom 2018 in just ten days.
Devil May Cry 5was first announced this past June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Gamers got a first look at what would be a direct sequel toDevil May Cry 4, which was released over a decade ago in 2008. It was shown that players would once again assume the role of the demon hunter Nero, at least for part of the story.
The E3 trailer forDevil May Cry 5gave the first look at some of thenew gameplay elementsthat will set it apart from previous games. Most notably, we saw that Nero was equipped with a new cybernetic arm called the Devil Breaker, a unique weapon which seems to replace Nero’s demonic right arm, the Devil Bringer. The Devil Breaker will be equipped with new abilities such as lightning-based attacks and a sort of grappling hook that can grab onto enemies and pull them closer.
The Gamescom demo will give attendees a hands-on experience with this new gameplay for the first time. Even though most of the general public will have to wait to get a taste of thefifth entry of the hack-and-slash action game, we should see new insight on the gameplay within a couple weeks. While the demo will be available at Gamescom, it is unlikely that we will see a playable digital demo forDevil May Cry 5any time soon.
Devil May Cry 5is a return to the original lore for the series. Despite Capcom publishing a reboot developed by Ninja Theory back in 2013 titledDmC: Devil May Cry, many fans of the series were left disappointed by the direction the reboot took, specifically with thenew character design for Dante. This return to form for the series should please Capcom’s fanbase and Hideaki Itsuno’s return as director will hopefully revitalize a franchise that has gone too long without a proper sequel.
Devil May Cry 5is slated for a Spring 2019 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
