The next generation of consoles is now the current generation, as thePlayStation 5and Xbox Series X both launched last week after a year of hype, secrecy, and carefully doled out information. Likely due at least in part to thecoronavirus pandemicthat has kept much of the world on lockdown throughout 2020, availability of both consoles has not been sufficient for all hopeful buyers to get their hands on one.
Enter Philadelphia Cream Cheese. For friends and family who couldn’t purchase the most sought after holiday gift for the gamers in their lives this year, the company is offering a kit to allow them to bake aPS5cheesecake. “No, it’s not the hottest gaming console of the season,” says the Philadelphia Cream Cheese press release about the product. “It’s something even more delicious.”

Philadelphia Cream Cheese isn’t the only company to attempt to appease disappointed gamers who couldn’t get their hands on a PlayStation 5 at launch. Preorders sold out almost immediately, with the PS5 proving to be more popular than the Xbox Series X in some countries, and there was an extremely limited supply of consoles available at launch. Currently, the only way to reliably get one of the new consoles is topay an exorbitant amount to purchase a PS5 on eBay.
Recently, anindie developer releasedPS5 Simulator,a game that recreates in 3D what it is like to purchase and unbox the new console. In the simulation, the PS5 is delivered in a cardboard box and players have to successfully hook it up to their TV. Before beginning to play, the appropriate snacks need to be dutifully retrieved from the kitchen and a game disc ofKnack 3must be inserted into the console. Unfortunately, players don’t actually get to see what the game looks like, partly because the simulated console isn’t a real PS5 and also due to the fact thatKnack 3hasn’t been developed yet.
