Hazbin Hotelseason 2will continue to follow Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen), the ambitious princess of Hell and owner of a hotel where sinners can be redeemed and ascend to Heaven. However,Heaven has never been on board with this plan, which led to Charlie and her friends doing battle with Adam(Alex Brightman) in theHazbin Hotelseason 1 finale.
While speaking withScreenRant’s Ash Crossan and San Diego Comic-Con 2025,Hazbin Hotelcreator Vivienne Medrana said that Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump was “lovely” to work with, and that his character is very “fun and delightful.“Stump will be voicing Abel, son of Adam, in the upcoming season. Check out Medrano’s full comments below:
EXCLUSIVE: ScreenRant: I’m such a Fall Out Boy fan. What’s he going to be doing?
Vivienne Medrano: Patrick is awesome. He was absolutely delightful to work with. So, me and Richard are in LA predominantly, but we attempt to make it out, at least a little bit, to New York. I think I am able to go more often than you, but we were magically together at that point for two weeks. And [Patrick] just so happened to be, I think, stopping in New York for the tour, so we were able to do an in-person recording session with him for his first session.
Richard Horvitz [star of Medrano’s Helluva Boss]: He was amazing.
Vivienne Medrano: It was so great. He’s lovely, [and] so, so kind, especially for an artist of his level. He was so down to Earth [and] so genuinely easy to work with from the second we started.
And his character’s so fun and delightful. I got a lot of joy out of how much he was enjoying playing the character. He kept making comments, [like] “I love this guy. This is so fun.” I was like, “Oh, he’s enjoying it.” So, yeah, I am so excited for everyone to hear and see [him]. He’s also a character that’s very beloved on the crew side as well. Everyone really likes him. The writers love [him]. Everyone’s like, “I want to do Abel scenes.” So yeah, he’s a great character. He does an amazing job with voice and we may or may not hear some singing as well.
Richard Horvitz: “May or may not.” That’d be crazy if we didn’t.
Vivienne Medrano: We hire Fall Out Boy, [and] we don’t have him sing.
What Patrick Stump’s Casting Means For Hazbin Hotel Season 2
The Hazbin Hotel’s Relationship With Heaven Will Get More Complex
So far, thecharacters inHazbin Hotelout of Heaven have served as the villains. The show delves into questions of true morality and redemption when the angels and demons have seemingly been arbitrarily sorted into one category or another.Adam is a generally awful character (in a funny way), who spearheads the effort to go to Hell and slaughter sinnersevery year.
Vivienne Medrano is also the creator ofHelluva Boss, another adult animated series set in Hell in the same universe asHazbin Hotel.
Abel’s “delightful” character will seemingly veer away from this— what we know him now actually makes him come across as being a lot like Charlie. Season 1 also hints at the young angel Emily (Shoba Narayan) helping Charlie in the future. With Sir Pentious' (also Brightman) “death” proving that redemption is possible, it makes sense for Charlie to find some more allies in Heaven.
Behind the scenes, it sounds like Stump is a natural fit with the rest of the cast, and the character dynamics and final product will only get better. Of course, Stump being a musical star lends itself to the show being a musical, and we could soon hear him performing another one ofHazbin Hotel’s best songs.
Our Take On Patrick Stump As Abel In Hazbin Hotel Season 2
It Sounds Like Abel Is Going To Be Hilarious
Hazbin Hotelcould not do a better job of hyping up the introduction of Abel,a few months from now. Glimpses of Stump recording his lines in his casting announcement video emphasize how amusingly sweet Abel will be, which is exactly the twist the second season will need, when nearly everyone else at the hotel has a much darker mindset than Charlie.
Additionally, it is all but guaranteed that Abel is getting his own song, and it would be amazing if this track also made use of Stump’s rock music background while leaning on the more positive aspects of Abel’s character — a counter to Adam’s season 1 song “Hell Is Forever.” As the Hellaverse continues to expand, it will need more characters, andHazbin Hotelhas at least one all-around great one.
